1. ha-ha, rummy pissed because of all these folks walking around with...
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 07:27 PM by DubyasWorld
all this technology: internet, email, digital cameras... in other words, more freedom of information.

he's also upset that the media doesn't show more touchy-feely happy stories in iraq.

rummy's clearly pissed that he can't totally control the news media.
damn 1rst amendment!

now he's saying things in iraq have never been better.

 :silly: :wtf:

9. and when Murtha was brought up
Rummy snarled: "so have HIM on the show!"

basically: if you're not going to bow, scrape, and believe everything I say, why am I here?

10. Lehrer didn't appear to be happy with the
answers Rummy was giving him, especially blaming the press for not reporting the truth about how well things were really going. I nearly choked on my drink. What BS universe do these neo-cons live in?

11. i am sure that the GI's were carefully screened
before they were allowed to talk to Rummy. Of course these right leaning GI's would then say what Rummy wanted to hear.

12. Optimism turns to despair
Lehrer brought up this point: maybe Americans are disillusioned because they were led to believe that the Iraq war would be brief, inexpensive, and have few casualties. Rumsfeld expressed ignorance about how they could've got THAT idea!

13. Rumsfeld: Use of force less than five months.

Nov. 14, 2002 Donald Rumsfeld, Sect. of Defense
"I can't tell you if the use of force in Iraq today will last five days, five weeks or five months, but it won't last any longer than that."

Nov. 15, 2002 Donald Rumsfeld, Infinity Radio call in show
"The idea that it's going to be a long, long, long battle of some kind I think is belied by the fact of what happened in 1990," he said on an Infinity Radio call-in program. "Five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn't going to last any longer than that."

Feb. 7, 2003 Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to U.S. troops in Aviano, Italy: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

14. Oh ya gotta send those quotes to Leher.
He blew that one. My take:

It hard to watch, isn't it? That gummy, lipless, soul-bereft smile grimacing his self-congratulatory gawks and squeals, do turn ones blood to ice. And yet, I watch in horrible fascination, the man who made every bad decision that could be made, yet fails to accept one grain of responsibility. At one point Jim Leher stared in disbelief, as Rummy coyly applying “Carnage Math” tried to lower the number of dead service people to 1,600. If you watched, then you too saw the quick brush off by the Rumsterstein as Leher gawked: “...are you saying?”

But that was not all...oh no, that was not the highlight. That came later when Rumsfailed grandly pronounced how happy and safe the moderates Arabs in the Gulf region feel now that he, Rummy The Great, has tamed the Iraqi beast. Alas, I’m sorry to say, that in the true fashion of the mewing press, Leher muttered not a mumbling word. Not a word. No word.

I’m not sorry that I watched. My hair was getting a little long anyway. And after all, it provided a chance for me to imagine a group of Rummy supporters eagerly awaiting his appearance, quickly getting the video on the web, and admiring his tie.
I’m sure these strange people will someday make the pages of a Stephen King novel entirely peopled with Gorgons trapped in an insane asylum.

15. Watching it right this second, and loving it.
Anyone who missed it: If Lehrer is rebroadcast later (or you have Comcast On Demand, or the like), definitely watch it/tape it for later. It's a beaut!
