Sickening sighting
On my way to a birthday party this afternoon I see a white Saturn on the expressway with two flags flying high above the roof from each of the back windows. I can clearly see that one is an American flag but my curiosity makes me drive faster to get a better look at the second flag. When I do, I see: "Bush/Cheney '04"!!!!!

The driver? A young black man. I know this is Halloween season but that was uncalled for.

I had to fight the uncontrollable urge to follow the idiot driver and key his car.

1. Maybe he borrowed the car
because he is from out of town, or his own car broke down.

3. I think there are alot
of black conservatives anymore.

It's just a quiet thing you don't hear much about.
I'm of the mind that racism isn't such a big issue in modern times.

Why would it be different anymore?
People who believe that they are doing well financially will face the threat of becoming conservative.
It's human nature to a degree. Protect what I've got.
And somehow George of the Bungle, and his handlers, sell the message pretty well that they are going to help them do just that.

Flame me if you want, but it's not racism anymore, it's classism.

7. it's true
Read a study that says that as African Americans become more affluent, they turn republican.

The Dem party hasn't done the job they need to do to hold on to them, either.

10. Labor, too.
Talking to a few of the local dockworkers, electricians, and other well-paid union types-- they've become quite well-off under their contracts, and have a certain disconnect between themselves and other blue collar labor.

Many have bought into the idea that they've "done it themselves" and forget that there are a bunch of people out there working just as hard without a union negotiator making the deal.

Many have also gotten over the hump of fighting for what they consider theirs. They have it already, and are more afraid of having that taken away than interested in getting more.

This leads right into the conservative mindset that change is scary, and that they are now supporting the "undeserving."

15. I live in a right to work state and I was in the Steelworkers union
Soooo many of my co-workers voted Republican because of the perception that keeping a Republican in the WH would keep the defense bucks rolling in (this was a shipyard).

Then they would complain about scabs! Go figure! And they would drop out of the union because they didn't want to pay the dues, while enjoying the hard-won benefits of those of us who struck and negotiated a new contract.

People like that make my blood boil.

5. I agree that this is not a race issue...but a class issue
I am black and traditionally we have been dems. CONs are (you have to give them credit they are ahead of us on this one) successfully pushing the myth that Dems take blacks for granted.

I'm just surprised that people are falling for it when Bush's record of lies should make anybody think thrice before becoming a CON.

6. Goebbels v2.0 is very persuasive
just like the original verson.

With Goebbels v2.0 at your command, you could damned near convince large percentages of people that 1 + 1 = 3.

Orwell was right, he just missed the right title by 17 years.

9. my anecdotal observation that only confuses things further
Of the African-American Republicans that I've personally met, a disproportionate number of them have been gay men. I'm not kidding. So these people, in my view, have voted against their own interests in at least two ways. This is entirely unscientific, and I've never really thought about it before, but, for what it's worth, it's true.

11. I've never understood gay republicans,
period, white, black, yellow, red, polka-dot, whatever. The GOP HATES gays and is doing everything possible to keep them down and out.

But I can assure you that Muslims are getting more and more pissed off at Bush and will be a big part of the move to oust him in '04.

It's just an occutrin dealer who's advertising with his flags. Had you followed him farther you would have seen a lot of deals go down.
