Just saw this post on another board to which I post re theocracy in the US
http://mb18.scout.com/fwestvirginia18066frm10.showMessage?topicID=7078.topic

I think one of the major misconceptions in this country is that Christians want to turn it into a theocracy. I know of no Christian anywhere that has that goal. If anyone does know of one, I'd like to know about it. You were right in stating this nation was founded on Christian principles. That's what the Christians are fighting to maintain, those very same Christian principles. That's the whole point there - Christians are fighting to maintain and defend what is there, not trying to force or impose something new on this country.

As ***** points out, Christians have a right to particpate in the government as much as the next person. When Christians, or anyone for that matter, lose that right, then much more is lost than just one group's rights.

The last thing I'd want is for Christianity, or any other religion to be made the official religion of the United States.

1. When leaders of a particular religious sect are consulted before
nominees for the Supreme Court of the United States of America are selected, then I think it's pretty safe to say we're sliding down the slippery slope toward theocracy.

3. i suppose
it's not gone that far- IF citizens still have the opportunity to vote out theocratic administrations.

I'm not entirely convinced that's true, however....

4. I'll agree with that with one change
it is a de facto theocracy, and not one written into the laws. Yet.

5. Did you send him some links on dominionism and Rushdoony?
Believe me this Christian right here wants pretty much the opposite of a theocracy. I mean, all else aside, how long before the fundies start coming after Lutherans and Episcopalians after they get their kingdom?

6. So it's OK to impose religion on the country...just so long as it's not
'new'?

8. The writer needs to do a bit of homework
and it won't take long. Just do a search of "Dominionist" and "Christian Reconstructionist."

Honestly, these people with no personal boundaries irk me no end, they invariably think the world is exactly as they are.

9. Don't tell that to Pat Robertson
In March 1986 the following memo was distributed to the Iowa Republican County Caucus by Pat Robertson titled “How to Participate in a Political Party.” It read:

“Rule the world for God.

“Give the impression that you are there to work for the party, not push an ideology.

“Hide your strength.

“Don’t flaunt your Christianity.

“Christians need to take leadership positions. Party officers control political parties and so it is very important that mature Christians have a majority of leadership positions whenever possible, God willing.”
