More Lies? Alito's Dad No Immigrant?

Earlier today I was intrigued by Armando's Diary on the New York Times story about Alito and his wonderful father. In nominating Alito, Bush made a big deal about Alito's dad being an Italian immigrant. Or was it just another Rovian LIE?

I'm sure, as well, that Judge Alito is thinking of his mom, Rose, who will be 91 in December. And I know he's thinking about his late father. Samuel Alito Sr. came to this country as a immigrant from Italy in 1914. And his fine family has realized the great promise of our country.

Judge, thanks for agreeing to serve. And congratulations on your nomination.

I checked it out using the US Army enlistment records for World War II. Samuel Alito of Mercer, New Jersey was born in 1914 in New Jersey. There are codes on the data set for "Nativity" as well as "Citizenship" so there is no possibility of error here - unless Sam Sr. lied when he enlisted in 1938 to serve his country.

Shows Samuel Alito, age 16, born in Italy. Immigrated in 1914 with parents Mary and Anthony.

So, if he was born in Italy, he immigrated as an infant and was in the US virtually all his life. Sounds like sexing up the facts to me.
