I'd be thrilled never to have Christmas shoved down my throat ever again
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 11:28 AM by BurtWorm
I'm tired of the same kitschy songs invading every commercial space. I'm tired of the same Christmas story being endlessly recycled every year in the annual Big Boring Hollywood Blockbuster. I'm tired of the same tacky electric displays littering the landscape. I'm tired of the annual massacre of innocent pine trees.

And now they've added a new wrinkle to be tired of: the annual phony war on Christmas.

Don't worry, yule-lovers. As long as there's a buck to be made off it, Christmas is safe.

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas. And happy holidays to the rest of us.

1. Me too
It's so tacky and overwhelming, and completely unrelated to anything they say the holiday's supposed to be about, that it ruins it for me and I think a lot of other people.

2. I like all the pretty lights
Winter is such a dreary time and to have lots or pretty light displays and parties is pretty nice in those darkest days...

But they're very tacky in the neighborhood I walk in to get to and from work. It's too much. For too long.

9. tacky is what tacky sees. so these neighbors didnt meet you style
expectation. we on the other hand, have our lites up and they make us feel good. as they shine into our windows at night, and we are all warm and toasty and feeling good, together as a family. os when we see lites, we see joy. regardless how well someone was able/capable of putting them up. we see the joy and enjoyment of family in the house, spending their day anticipating lights......no bad for us. not when i look

bummer your neighbors were so inconsiderate in their desire to create their own happiness and joy and love within their family

10. Where others see Joy, I see competition.
Merry Christmas.

3. I don't know why . . .
. . . but this year the songs in stores seem louder and more irritating. Sort of like a dentists drill.

4. Yeah and it isn't enough now to torture children and make
them sit on a stranger's lap. Now in more and more places people are torturing their pets with "Santa" too. I'd like to see all the Santa visits banished forever. Always scared the shit out me when I was a kid, I'm sure it scares most kids and all pets now too.

I saw Christmas decorations in late August in our local stores as soon as the BBQ stuff was gone! It's great for children though.

12. I would be thrilled.
But I don't expect it to happen.

My point, in case you missed it, is that the "war on Christmas" is phony. Christmas is safe. Those of us who'd really like to see it gone aren't about to wage war on it beyond taking little potshots that are about as effective as a pea shooter against a Sherman tank. Christmas just keeps rolling along.

Happy holidays.

13. I don't mind a ubiquitous Christmas
but I'm tired of the so called "War on Christmas." I'm tired of RWers complaining when Christmas does not occupy every inch of our public consciencenous, including the public square.

I'm especially tired of RWers assailing a religiously neutral greeting because they assume that everyone celebrates, or should celebrate their holiday. Most every one celebrates some winter holiday, whether theistic or atheistic, why can't fundies respect other religions with a "Happy Holidays" greeting?

Whenever someone who doesn't know me or my religious preference wishs me a Merry Christmas, I feel embarrassed for them. How could they know that I'm not Jewish, or Muslim, or atheist for that matter?

I'm so tired of the assault on political correctness. I whole-heartedly agree that it has run amok, but at its core PC is common courtesy and respect for differences that may exist in a multi-cultural and otherwise diverse society. What could possibly be wrong with that?

15. Christmas trees are grown like broccoli or lettuce, to be harvested.
People are not cutting down forests for trees.. they are a harvested crop. FYI.

I love Christmas!!! I love the lights, I love the trees, I love the season! It has nothing to do with the stupid hollywood movies, cuz I never go see them. It has nothing to do with buying junk at shopping malls and box stores, cuz I don't do that either. It has to do with spending my time doing things that make others happy, and in turn it makes me happy. I make my own christmas cards, I make gifts, I bake, I just enjoy the cooperative and happy spirit that the season brings. I am not a "christian" per se, but I love what Christmas stands for... and love the feeling of it.

There are just two types of people out there, those that love it and those that don't.
