We entered into the Twilight Zone when Bush got 'elected'.

Now we entered into the Double Super Mentally Disturbed Acid Tripping Crazy Delusional Totally Whacked Far Out Bizarro Twilight Zone with the Annual 'liberal war on christians'.

Isn't the whole point of the Good Samaritan parable to be respectful of other people's religions?

8. I'm ready to be blasted for this....
...but I was in Israel a few years ago, staying in the heart of Muslim Jerusalem, during Ramadan. It really affects how and when you can receive goods and services, and if you go out in the evening to any public restaurant or similar establishment, you will likely become part of a post-sunset fast-breaking. And I was never offended by having my schedule dictated by someone else's religious practices, even though I don't follow said religion.

What then, is the real problem with hearing "Merry Christmas" if you're NOT a Christian? Is it REALLY such a big deal? No one is FORCED to actually BE a Christian, is the hearing of a phrase, or the seeing of a nativity scene, really such an offense?

19. The 'real problem' for some of us is that we refuse to make assumptions
that everybody has the same belief system. Some want to acknowledge that they do not know the path others follow with a greeting which is more encompassing.

I don't mind when people say Merry Christmas. I accept it for the greeting it is. I do choose to say something else to people who might not be Christian. What's the problem with a little open-mindedness and acceptance? If my Christian acquaintances are offended by Happy Holidays, they are the ones with issues.

There is more than Christmas to celebrate and I figure real, practicing Christians understand that. The talk-the-talk but stumble-the-walk christians can take their egocentric puffery and choke on it. Doesn't bother me. Any rage they direct at me is sorta pointless; I laugh at their foolishness.

21. Most stores use "Happy Holidays" to avoid offending customers.
But the practice has been attacked by the Religious Right. The scumbags at Concerned Women for America have been forcing the issue for a couple of years now.

www.cwfa.org/articles/5040/CFI/misc/

I tend NOT to be offended by any friendly greeting. But "Happy Holidays" has become part of "The Liberal Plot Against Christianity."

Too bad the Bluenosed Puritans can't return to their roots. Let them avoid Christmas altogether & let the rest of us celebrate as we wish.

22. you have it backwards
You're criticizing people who don't want to hear "Merry Christmas," as though they're the ones who are complaining. But that's backwards.

It's people who *demand* that they be greeted with "Merry Christmas" who are making the news with their complaints.

Most people think everyone should be allowed to use the greeting they prefer, but the extremist Christians are opposed to that idea, trying instead to put the force of law behind their preferred greeting. That's where your indignation should be directed.

27. I hope I didn't come across as indignant
cause I'm not, and I have PLENTY of criticism for the fundies who think hearing "Happy Holidays" is an attack on Christianity, I should have made that clearer. I guess I'm just wondering why any of this is even an issue at all - whether someone says Happy Holidays, or Blessed Solstice, or Merry Christmas, or anything - as long as it's offered in a spirit of good will, why would ANYONE have a problem with it?

23. I get the feeling that many Christians are more bothered by
'Happy Holidays' than non-Christians are bothered by 'Merry Christmas'. I don't care if someone says 'Merry Christmas' to me, but don't tell me that I can't choose to say 'Happy Holidays' back.

I've seen people intentionally go up to Jewish families and say 'Merry Christmas'. That is pretty damn ignorant in my book.

29. You have it wrong. What is the harm in hearing Happy Holidays even if
you only celebrate one holiday and not others?

What is the harm in recognizing the existence of other people?

32. Ummm, You've Got It Wrong, That's NOT The Complaint
Some people say "Happy Holidays" in order to be inclusive and nutjobs DEMAND that they say Merry Xmas instead. If you want to say Merry Xmas to me, fine. But if I say Happy Holidays to you, keep your fucking mouth shut and don't tell me "It's Merry Xmas NOT Happy Holidays!"

You do realize these fucking morons are demanding that stores and public places REMOVE signs saying Happy Holidays and replace them w/ one's saying Merry Xmas. As if Xmas is the ONLY legitimate holiday of the season and everyone should celebrate it. Get it now?

All these Christian zealots on Christmas would go to Strawbery Bank in Portsmouth NH at Christmas Time and look at the early Puritan home. Now that would give one food for thought. WTC falls and Bush tells us to shop. It is like the twilight zone.

This imaginary war on Christmas really gets on my f-ing nerves. And who does it hurt if Wal-freaking-Mart employees say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"? Really? Who is harmed by this? Who is being told that they CANNOT celebrate Christmas as they wish? Who?!?

25. Meanwhile in Iraq. . .
Tens of thousands of innocents, on both sides, continue to die. Bush continues to pour money down the rathole that is the war, enriching his cronies while pushing America to the brink of economic meltdown. Our civil liberties are disappearing at a rate that is only approached by the disappearing planetary ice. And the people of the Gulf Coast still struggle to rebuild their lives after Katrina while being mostly ignored now by the rest of the country.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, by any other name it is all Distraction, Distraction, Distraction. And sadly the sheeple get all worked up over this distraction, and Bushco smiles as they sweep more and more shit under the rug.

30. For many years I have simply said, "Seasons greetings!" with a smile
If someone were to insist on making a point of arguing about "Merry Christmas," I would just tell them that I don't practice worship of commercialism. Then if they want to get into an argument of how much they've spent on junk at Wal-Mart this year for their friends and relatives versus how much they've given to charity, fine.
