They're taking Christ out of Christmas!!
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 02:38 AM by JohnnyRingo
Now they're calling $45 pine trees "Holiday trees".
Circuit City is having a "'Tis the Season" sale on DVD players.
Target features "Xmas discounts" on PS2 video games.
K-Mart is slashing prices on Chinese crap for their "Holiday sale".

Somebody tell Neil Boortz and the right wing that they excommunicated Christ when the capitalists took over.
That was before my time, and I'm old.

The coup 'de gras came when the guy down the street lit up Rudolph in white and posed him eating his lawn while Santa mercilessly beats him with a mechanized whip.

1. that is the funny (read: sad) part about this stupid talking point.
they take something that people ACROSS ALL POLITICAL SPECTRUMS who happen to be Christian have been dismayed about for some time. Is there a war on Christmas by those who are seeking to drive religion from the public square? NO! NO! NO!

This is about the most free society you can imagine regarding all manner of religious preference and practice.

BUt the right wing slobs in the 6x10 foot conference room with white board and cheap coffee have been brainstorming new "rage points" for the "2 minutes of hate" that the AmeriBOTS must object to.

Now the masses of programmed Capitalist Christianity in suburban megachurches around the country have a new strawman. People aren't saying Christmas because the centuries-long oppression of Christians continues. blah blah blah.

you hit nail on head. this is a commercialization issue. And Bushies try to coopt it. DON'T LET THOSE stupid college republican campaign operatives get away with this.

spread the truth.

their own self interests. They tell them that Christianity is under attack by the "secular left"! That way, they will be good Christians and vote Republican! Bill O'Reilly is probably the worst offender that I've heard.

4. Didn't know Jesus went in for that sort of thing, anyway
A lot of Christians don't celebrate X-mas because of its pagan origins, but Bill O'Reilly etc. keep waving the Jesus flag like that's what Christmas is all about. Here's a reference as to the origins of Christmas, but I warn you it is x-ually explicit and not for kids

5. holiday comes from holy day
You'd think that would be preferable to Christmas even as there are many days in holidays. More days to spread the joy of jesus, doncha know. I think Pat Robertson needs to come to my town, we don't even have holidays, we only have "seasons greetings". On one of those gold tinseled light up banners from the 1940s. Apparently Oregon has always been progressive. :)

6. The wing nuts watched to much little house on the prairie
and mistake the biggest Macy's trick of all. It was Macy's that made xmas what it is today, with one movie,''yes Virginia there is a Santa. The real american Xmas traditions have went to the way side since then. The christmas holiday of the past were family and neighbors getting together to share food that was stock piled for winter before it went bad. There were very little store bought gift giving done in those days, mostly it was a hand made toys for the kids and new clothes that were woven by the mothers while the men and kids were out tending to the livestock. Most families didn't decorate their houses and the ones that had trees in their homes had problems with the trees catching fire. Try to find pictures of towns around xmas that were all decorated up the way they are today, before 1934, theres none that I could find, though I did find a site that mentioned a town being decorated but there wasn't much more in there then it was decorated and it cost the towns people $34.

7. Christians stole the use of the Solstice celebration
and trappings of it including the tree, and they want it to stay stolen, damn it. ;-)

I especially love the boycott over WalMart's 'Happy Holiday' orientation as to not offend non-Christian shoppers.
As if that was the only and most important reason to take WalMart on.

9. They've Crammed Christ into My Solstice
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 04:15 AM by REP
ALL (well, almost all) people have had celebrations in late December. It makes sense: it's cold, it's dark and it's miserable, and planning and preparing for a huge celebration takes the mind off just how frigid and gloomy it is. By the time the party comes and goes, the days are getting longer and there's some hope we won't live in a frozen hell forever.

Then the Christians tried to take it over. They're more than welcome to join in! The more the merrier, and I try to celebrate all the winter holidays myself ... but to insist that this is THEIR holiday - back up, there bucky. We were here first, thankyouverymuch.

edit: cold + arthritis = typos - and I live in freaking CALIFORNIA!

13. Yep for the sake of our GNP, they're taking the "holy" out of the holidays
which seems to suggest that Americans worship money and things they can buy more than personal salvation. Free will. Their choice.

14. These fundies are the same ones who preached
against celebrating Christmas. And BTW the X in Xmass is Greek shorthand - it's the letter Chi as in Christ. It's not xing out Jesus.

16. Xmas trees were always part of PAGANISM... and it's corporamerica that
has been removing Christ and family from Christmas; replacing it with "gift giving" - so go buy this 72" plasma tv for $700 - for 4 hours only and we'll have gurneys and ambulances available if you stampede in like a bunch of hyper horses and run over each other to get them.
