There are rednecks, a group they most likely belong to. The less said about this, the better.

Then there are hippy rednecks. Now THOSE you can find in Texas, in great numbers. And they're good people. They drink a lot of beer, listen to Willie Nelson and generally believe in "live and let live." They work full-time--many of them make a good living, others live rather simple lives and that's ok by them.

But none of them ask for or expect much. They're perfectly happy with a cold Shiner, maybe a pack of cigarettes if that's their thing, the odd joint if someone's got one, some good music, cotton t-shirts (maybe from long-ago concerts, maybe from giving blood), warm evenings spent outdoors and not having an idiot asshole in the White House.

There are hippy rednecks who consider themselves to be Christians, but they're of the old-timey peaceful school of thought, not this new-fangled bloodthirsty war-lovin' "Christian" type. Back to that live and let live thing again. They think Jesus was the original hippy redneck and rather like the guy.

Hippy rednecks think for themselves, it's a great tradition. If they think someone's bullshitting them, they call them on it. They like to surprise people with their extensive knowledge of history or science. Because, you see, they are really smart.

They prefer not to ever wear a tie (or pantyhose in the case of female hippy rednecks) if they can get away with it. They aren't big on formality. If you ask them for something you need, if there's a way for them to get it for you, they will. Without a second thought.

That's just their way. They're some of the most giving, non-judgemental people on earth. They don't care where you're from or how much money you've got, where you went to school or who you sleep with. Doesn't concern them in the least.

But they don't suffer fools or stupidity. Which is why they question things.

Which is why regular rednecks, who are bigoted and hateful, hate the hippy rednecks and just call them hippies, as if that were an insult. To the hippy redneck, they just feel the label is incomplete.
