I really don't understand your amusement
You laughed your ass off because a man who has dedicated his life to the spiritual betterment of others (in his way of thinking, admittedly) got suckerpunched in the middle of his sermon?

Does it also amuse you to know that he not only continued his sermon (turned the other cheek, for those of you who understand the passage) and then forgave his attacker? To the point of going to his place of incarceration and speaking with him?

Are you also amused that the boob who smacked him was completely in denial that he caused another human being physical harm? And that he claimed the right to hurt anyone, anywhere, for any reason?

My grandfather was born on the Cherokee Reservation in Tahlequah, OK. If he were alive today he'd advise against my responding to your amusement in any way. He's not here though.

I'm ashamed. Ashamed to share the term "progressive" with you.

10. Not funny. Anyone who sucker punches someone in the face is an asshole
I saw it a couple times on the news before I left for work today. Pretty disgusting. The guy gave the preacher a very hard straight right to the face with zero warning. Only a fucking coward does something like that.

11. Daugherty is part of the Anal, er Oral Roberts klan. If I had the chance,
I'd punch any or all of those scum bastards. I was a good friend of Ronnie Roberts in high school (Oral's youngest son)...lived 2 blocks from them. He committed suicide just after we graduated and I have never nor ever will forgive those money-grubbing bigot assholes for what they did to him. They are, along with Foulball and ROBert$on, among the foulest humans to ever inhabit the planet.

17. I didn't research it, but I don't see the tie-in...
"part of the Anal, er Oral Roberts klan".

So, you were a good friend of Ronnie Roberts, who killed himself. I'm not privy, did he leave a note?

I followed your link to that guy Hargis' death, but I failed to find anything related to Oral Roberts' son.

I understand how you might have been shocked by his suicide, as we all are shocked when our close friends (the way you put it, I'm sure you were close friends as you've assigned blame for his suicide) take their own lives. But I fail to make the connection.

A little help maybe? Factual rather than anecdotal?

18. By anecdotal, I assume you are referring to the Roberts/Daugherty
connection? You can rest assured that my friendship with Ronnie is first person factual, Edison High School 1959.

As to the other part...the "Victory Christian Center" is located IN one of the Roberts' buildingss and their close association is well known here in the Tulsa area.

Here's one page from their website that will make you :puke: :
http://www.victorytulsa.org/vr/Fall2002/theWar.asp

I had another good friend in high school, Chuck Ramsey whose father was Oral's money guy---he supervised the opening of many bags of money that came in every day, Chuck was a good guy and certainly wasn't responsible for his dad's occupation. I have nothing but contempt for these people.

4. So, it is funny because a theocrat got clocked or
because of the particular story that had just been told --

"I had just told the story of Paul and Silas being beaten and thrown into jail," said Daugherty, whose church is one of Tulsa's largest.

Are you guessing the 'puncher' had had enough with judgmental preachers?

9. why guess? here's the story:
TULSA, Okla. - A preacher who was punched in the face during a church service met with his alleged assailant, saying he wanted to pray for him. The Rev. Billy Joe Daugherty said Tuesday that Steven Wayne Rogers showed no remorse and offered no apology during their meeting at the Tulsa Jail.

"He said he'd do whatever he wants, to whomever he wants, whenever he wants," Daugherty said.

Rogers, 50, was identified as the man who came forward during an altar call near the end of Sunday's Victory Christian Center service, motioned for Daugherty to approach and then hit Daugherty twice, opening a cut above Daugherty's eye that required two stitches.

7. no, it isn't
a man just released from an "institution" wandered into the service and slugged the preacher... who continued the sermon and then met with the man the next day and forgave him. It was on the Abrams Report.

when somebody gets hurt....even if they are a fundamentalist asshole. That's not right. That's playing right into their hands.
