I just want to say that I'm SOOOOO GRATEFUL for DU!
When I sit here in Utah and think I'm the only person here who has any sense, I find others of like mind at DU.

When I'm so pissed off at BushCo that I could burst a blood vessel, I can let of steam at DU with folks who listen and understand.

When BushCo is so incredibly stupid that I just HAVE to talk about it, I know I can talk to folks here at DU.

When I'm so sick and disgusted by BushCo that I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE, I come to DU and SOMEBODY has an excellent post that makes me laugh and feel better.

Thank you, DU, for all the excellent work you do! Thank you DUers, for being an excellent support network for the sensible folk wandering in the Republican wilderness.

 :loveya: :grouphug: :yourock:

4. My sentiments exactly....
My parents are hard core Repugs - my Mom could watch Faux news 24/7....If it weren't for my husband and the DU, I'd be dying a slow death trying to talk some sense into them but since I've been here, my sanity has been restored and have realized that I can not and probably will never be able to shed some light for them. I'm praying that a picture of Bush/Rove/Cheney/Rumsfeld (doesn't matter which) will surface with one of then screwing a sheep - that's the only way to turn the tide with my parents.....

6. I second that emotion! DU has both saved and wrecked my life for
the last 2 1/2 months ("wrecked", as in, I can't get offa here and, like, clean up my house, watch a DVD, keep up with friends, etc.!) I start jonesing baaaad if I'm away for more than 5-6 hours...loveya back, majorly!

8. Feelin the same way here in Idaho. Not to be too broad brush
about Utah or Idaho but liberal folk are the minority as you know...although that Salt Lake City mayor you have is a pleasant surprise.
When I find someone like minded at work we have to talk like we're in Ricks Cafe.
DU is sanctuary.

16. I've heard good things about Austin
As much as a griped about UT when I lived there, I'd go back for the right job situation. Housing is so over priced here...we could sell and get a much nicer house in the Salt Lake area, and that wouldn't be so bad.

20. Housing prices are skyrocketing in Utah. Up like 13% last month.
A bubble, IMO, but what are ya gonna do. Median house price now is probably around $150,000, maybe a bit more. Can't get much for less. You can't buy a decent building lot for less than $50,000 unless you go VERY rural. Oh, for the days when $70,000 could buy a huge house (in California, yet). I actually remember those days, although I was a lot younger then. ;)

27. It's because Californians are moving there in droves
I friend of mine is moving to either Cedar Hills or South Jordan, hasn't decided yet. She lives in a very normal 3/2 here, on an OK street, but will not have a mortgage in Utah. Her sister lives in CH and says that everyone on her street there is a transplanted Californian.

I remember those $70K days, too. When I was a girl, the house across the street from my mom was on the market for ages, a 4/2 on a big lot. They had to reduce the price, because no one wanted to pay the asking price of $60K. It could probably sell for $400K today.

14. Ditto everything you said! DU has been a source of sanity for me
since last years elections, and I have learned so much here! It has been wonderful. I just wish that I'd known of DU after the SCOTUS selection of 2000, as that is when my HATRED of BushCo. started. I have never hated any other President (even Nixon!) until B*.

:grouphug: and :yourock: too!

17. Thank you, Former Republican...
One night when I was feeling really alone in this red town, I read your first post. It gave me hope, to see no matter which party we belong to - we all want our country back. Together, we work for change and hope for the best. In our darkest moments we come here, to laugh and cry with our DU friends. Just remember, you too made a difference.:hi:

I can talk to is my lady and she is too busy to stay on top of all of the news/scandals/culture of corruption so DU is a source for me to share/vent/research and relax.

22. Some day you can tell your grandchildren how you watched the
Bush administration disappear one night.

Remember the line from "Gone With the Wind"? Rhett Butler tells Scarlett: "You can tell your grandchildren how you watched the old South disappear one night."

I like it better when we substitute "Bush administration".:toast:
