Just had a huge fight with a marine friend of mine
I was telling my marine friend that I intended to move to California, and a huge fight erupted, when he spit in disdain, asking why I would want to move to such a liberal faggot state.

I told him that yes, the liberals were so damned bad, things are so much better under the conservative regime that has brought this country to the state it is in today.

He went ballistic. He started screaming about Clinton gutting the military, and selling ICBMs (?) to China, and closing bases, and he should know, because he was a marine and he served and he knows these things. And Cinton had four chances to catch Bin Laden.

I pointed out that the ongoing president had NO CLUE about Bin Laden, and that, in fact, his big hardon at the start of his term was a missle defense shield, despite the fact that the outgoing administration warned them repeatedly that terrorism and alQuaeda were the most important national security issues. I reminded him that Bush was told about Bin Laden's determination to strike in the U.S. the summer before 9/11 and Bush went on vacation.

I reminded him that no WMDs had been found. OH but they had, we just weren't told about it, you see, he knows this because he was in the military.... you see, we wanted to recover them in secret. WHAT?!?!?!? Fighting an evil dictator is a just cause for war. Yeah, I said, but not the one we were originally told about... the war was about an imminent attack on us by Iraq, and ties to alQuaeda. Both justifications proven to be false.

Well then it is all about politics, he said. We were no longer looked upon as a super power and war is good for the economy. Yeah, the economy is going gangbusters right now, GM just laid of another 30,000 people, gas is $2.50 a gallon, and we have a huge deficit. Next?

Then I was told that I have no right to comment on this because I didn't serve my country. I told him to fuck off, I have every right as a tax paying citizen to question and criticize what my country does in my name.

Incidentally, I thought, as a footnote, that I should point out that this same liberal-hating marine has no problem with the very liberal concept of gay sex, nor infidelity outside of a relationship - he had done both of these, in fact, dating me while involved with another man. Breathtaking in the contradictions.

Oy. I would say drop him as a friend if he's going to treat you that way and isn't willing to listen or have a constructive discussion, but that's a) easier said than done and b) not my place.

I hope you can either make up or move on. Fighting sucks

The lying about the existing relationship thing...
... kind of already did it for me, already, months ago. I have already moved on.

I am sad to say there is no arguing with this one. And it is breathtaking that any problems had now, some six years after Clinton, are still his fault. Despite how shitty everything is now.

I can't believe how much people still hold things to be Clinton's fault. Though, to be fair, I may still be blaming things on Bush in 2013

8. The biggest supporter of China is the American Public...
The American Public loves low prices all the time...and we have willingly stood by as industry and jobs have moved overseas to big ole Red China.

Wal-Mart is literally nothing more than a big outlet for those Chinese made goods...which profit state run companies that literally send money into the coffers of the Red Army...HA HA HA....

Today the US debt is owned primarily by two countries Japan and China...who is probably going to overtake Japan for how much US debt they will hold....

The American people elected the corporate controlled government which has been indebting us to China.

12. When people put the economy before life, a complete body and mind,
a healthy immune system, a nightmare free sleep, parenting, a dream career pursuit, a chance to live without food stamps, or the bureacracy of trying to get vets rights - when people put the economy from phony and perpetual wars ahead of these things - we are doomed as humans.

14. Amen.
We went down that path. He started going on some lame-ass rant about sacrifice, you have to sacrifice. I told him he was insane.

Understanding the mindset of this guy, and I am assuming others like him... We had to go out and defeat our enemies to make us feared as a super power, and war was good for the economy.

Kind of a typical, figurative small-penis argument.

I told him this was immoral and evil, that the young men who serve our country are not cattle for the slaughter based on some economic whim.

23. My best friend...
.. was in the Army, and a rabid Fox-watching, Clinton-hating right winger. He and I argued and debated, but we were respectful of each other's opinions, and loved each other dearly.

I had dinner at his house a couple of days ago with his wife and his child. Since the birth of his baby, there has been a 180 degree turn around in his views. He looks upon the current administration, the current war as evil, foolish, bad. He thinks the current administration is packed with incompetent liars. He fears the social injustices. He is horrified at the ridiculousness of religion imposing on science in the classroom. He even questions his fundamental Christian beliefs.

He said that after his kid was born, he realized it all came down to wanting to make and live a happy, non-judged and non-judging life for his daughter, to be happy, secure.

Fox News is not allowed in his house now.

Fucking amazing. This army guy was uber right just a year ago.

the world either on my own or with someone - I always come back to this thought - If everyone made every decision for the good of children, we would have a path, a steering hand, and a common goal for good. But, some create exclusivity for their children to the death of others even though it boomerangs back to their children.

My practical religion is now centered mostly on the Beatitudes - (the Bible doesn't work for me because of the evil that is interpreted from it by some religion dominated reverends and radicals.)

Blessed be the children.

I wonder if there is even a book or an article devoted to the importance of living our lives for the longevity of our children accompanied by the theory that it is a political essential that could lead us to peace.

It just doesn't seem to be emphasized as a reason for our existence on this earth.

Save the fetus so that it can grow and die for a phony war.

28. I think it's just not worth it
It's just my humble opinion, but it seems so sad for BushCo to be responsible for the breaking up of friendships.

If he hasn't changed his mind by now, it's going to take an act of bestial pedophilia in the Rose Garden with the cameras rolling to convince him... so let it go.

His opinions are not your responsibility. As frustrating as listening to him is, just consider letting this whole thing go.

If it comforts him to think that WMDs were found and nobody in the administration found it newsworthy, well, just... let it go.

I think these days minds are being changed with very little effort on our part, so for those who prefer to be stuck... let it go.

And if he won't drop this argument, if he won't let it go... let him go.

32. Yep, Clinton cut the military and Kerry voted for it. Whose idea was it?
Who recommended it?

Dick Cheney.

"In subsequent years under Cheney the budgets proposed and the final outcomes followed patterns similar to the FY 1990 budget experience. Early in 1991 the secretary unveiled a plan to reduce military strength by the mid-1990s to 1.6 million, compared to 2.2 million when he entered office."

And since he's a closet case in the military, it wouldn't hurt to ask him why is it that there is still a ban on gays in the military?
