I'm taking a cautious attitude towards the 2006 elections
I'm not pessimistic either, but this White House has control of the whole federal government, and that allows them to play a lot more tricks than we as Democrats are capable of playing. True, maybe some of those tricks won't work, but that's betting the farm on a whole lot.

So many people out there just eat up anything this White House puts out there like little doggie biscuits.

An example: Bush remains mired in the 30's through next year, and then announces a major pullout of troops from Iraq and then declares "victory". Then of course, Americans and our corporate media shower Bush with praise and credit for "ending" the Iraq war that he started and fucked up all by himself. That gets him back up around 50%, and Republicans are able to hold their losses down, or even make small gains in 2006.

Even though a clear majority of Americans disapprove of this president today, I'm convinced that many American WANT to support him, because it makes them feel patriotic to support the president. They like feeling like they are going with the flow, and supporting what goes down. I think many of these people would be happy to go back to being quiet Bush supporters, even if it means giving him credit for ending a war that he initiated, falsified, fucked up and maintained.

1. GOP will do their damn best to make Iraq a non-issue
Democrats must operate on the assumption that there will be a major pullout next year, and Democrats must hold them accountable for the thousands of lives wasted.
