Republicans Refuse to Honor Springsteen

An effort by New Jersey's two Democratic senators to honor the veteran rocker was shot down Friday by Republicans who are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

The chamber's GOP leaders refused to bring up for consideration a resolution, introduced by Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine, that honored Springsteen's long career and the 1975 release of his iconic album, "Born to Run."

No reason was given, said Lautenberg spokesman Alex Formuzis. "Resolutions like this pass all the time in the U.S. Senate, usually by unanimous consent," he said.

Telephone calls to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's office seeking comment were not immediately returned.

1. How petty
He should do an antiwar concert in the state just to show them.

2. Rethuglicans were born to lie, why should Mr. Springsteen care?
Americans have affectionately given him the nickname, Boss. I hope he understands that this is a great honor along with the albums we´ve purchased.

3. While I don't like repug cheap shots like this
I also think all this honoring of this and that has gotten far out of hand, and the result is that these types of "honors" lose their special meaning.

I'd just rather stop all this "honoring" nonsense except for truly exceptional people and events.

4. Does anyone else remember when Reagan's campaign wanted to use...
..."Born in the USA" as their theme song, not having bothered to actually listen to the song's lyrics, just its chorus? :patriot:

10. I remember that
They also were planning to use it without Springsteen's knowledge or consent and Springsteen threatened to sue over it. Those stupid asses must have felt doubly ridiculous over that.

6. Isn't there more important things for the Senate to be doing???!!!!
Like the critical issues of steroids in baseball? This type of crap makes Dems look off point, why are Senators wasting floor time asking to honor music artists? How much would that "honor" celebration cost? What a waste of time and money.
