Question: How do wingers justify US troops remaining in Iraq?
I didn't hear any actual reason during Friday's "debate" in the House. If any DUer engages with wingers in their forums, would you please report on what they say would constitute actual "mission accomplished" in Iraq? Thank you.

2. Mission Accomplished for right-wingers means...
The end of the insurgency and a peaceful, democratic Iraq.

10. That's where they turn Dumb...
Most think it'll take a year or two, at most five.

Of course, in reality, it may take a couple of generations.

3. Pick one ....
"We're making progress"
"They're having free elections because of us"
"We can't send a message to the terrorists that we're quitters"
"We have to show the families of the fallen, that they haven't died in vain"
"Fight them there so we don't have to fight them here"

ad nauseum ...

6. they talk in vauge generalities
i.e. bring democracy to iraq, and stopping the enemy

these were the same arguments they used during Viet Nam, and the same hold true:

1. Iraq is NOT a democracy, and we have effectively made it into a theocracy where it was at least secular before

2. We don't even know who is the enemy That is the same as Viet Nam.

In addition, in Viet Nam we thought we needed to stop the Chinese threat, but didn't understand that Viet Nam was fighting China for centuries. In Iraq, and the middle east specifically, most of the people there do NOT want western colonialzation, as was done at the turn of the 20th century

They never learn from history

7. A philosophical answer
They are not very well educated. It is hard for them to contemplate other ideas which may lead to a solution. However, since they believe there is no problem, a solution is not needed.

But I believe war makes them feel good about themselves. It makes them part of a team. They can wave the colors and salute their leader and cheer on the team. When others dissent from such notions they cling together to bash the evil ones who aren't patriotic enough to know that any war is good as long as it is started by one of them.

Sad, ignorant, disgusting, hatefilled human beings, who as a group, are the number one domestic enemy of our constitution.

13. I'll buy that. To them, war itself is good, not a tool to reach goals

It unites the country around a Leader. It provides a sense of purpose and community. It provides the pathos of defeat and the joy of victory. That's true no matter what the war is about and whether it's being won.

That's what happens when the nation is degraded to the us vs them of the sports world. Just as the media has degraded into two sides shouting, the political world is now run on the same deep ethical meaning as the declaration "I'm a Bears Fan." And it isn't just the foreign war, either, but the domestic war.

Did you notice that the first thing out of the WH on Murtha was that he's joined Michael Moore? Nothing more indicative to show what "team" Murtha's on, and who should be hating him, right?

8. they live in an alternate reality
through propaganda and a lapdog press. That is why the Fairness Doctrine really needs to be reinstated. They still think we are there to fight "terra".
