"Tough Love" for the Iraqis?
There is a significant inconsistency in the domestic vs international approach to "self-sufficiency".

"If welfare recipient lose their payments... they'll get up off their lazy behinds and find a job. They will never learn to get by if we keep doing everything.. and why should I PAY MY GOOD MONEY to support this no-good leach"

But..

"If and when the Iraqis stand up, we'll stand down."

On it's very face there is a problem here.

4. Murtha touched on it in his speech...
I figured that it would resonate with people who, um, don't hang out here...

5. So you are saying Bushco are welfare state proponents?
at least when it comes to Iraq? The poor souls in New Orleans, well, they should have had better jobs and not lived on welfare. Meanwhile, the US is expected to carry all the weight in Iraq.

So, its tough love time for the Iraqis. They had had a taste of free elections and human rights - if they want more, THEY should be the ones working toward it.

8. I knew there was something obviously hypocritical there...

Welfare and billions of dollars to rebuild foreign countries in the name of "freedom" - just ignore those people floating in the Mississippi river. There are times when I wish the Rapture fable was real. I'd be glad to see the most ignorant of these fools off the planet where they can do no harm...
