What if the GOP had agreed to a vote on the Murtha proposal last night?
How many Dems would have voted yes?

1. That would've been the gutsy move by the repubs.
I don't know the answer but I do know the repulican leadership blinked and chickened out in favor of an empty partisan political stunt that benefited no one - least of all the troops the chickenhawks pretent to support.

2. You are right
I think if Murtha's resolution had been placed before the House, there would have been a split in Democratic ranks, based mainly on how each Representative read his or her own constituency. That's why I don't understand why the repukes decided on a stunt instead.

7. Because it woudl have spit the republicans too
and shown that to the world. They are not as united as they appear any more and many of them know that they may have to look for a job after the midterms

3. Could it have been that Congressman Murtha had the votes to
pass his resolution which is why the repubs pulled such a stunt; thereby deflecting the vote and hiding the recognition that the 'pubs are pukes?

4. I don't know. The Dems spoke glowingly of Murtha yesterday, but
I didn't hear any of them say, "he's right, and I'm supporting his resolution."

6. Some reasons come to mind as to why Democrats might not say
outright -

1 - undecided

2 - (warning: cliche) "playing their cards close to their vests"

3 - corporate media not reporting and/or not soliciting any statements of support from the Democrats

Ah, well, I'm not "in the loop" with the House Democrats so all I say is purely speculation anyway.

9. We might have found out how our Democratic reps really feel
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 01:37 PM by Generic Other
Today, I don't know for sure about anyone but McKinney, Wexlar, Serrano the three who voted "YES." The others may or may not have cast a sincere vote. Doesn't that fact in and of itself bother anyone? I don't know if the people I vote for are on my side. That makes me sad and terrifies me at the same time.

How come I am so far out in left field on this one at DU? Usually, I agree with most of you guys. I guess I would have been with one of the 3 in Congress who said the game was up. No more politics with soldiers' lives.
