"Spineless Dems," eh?
Murtha.

The budget bill.

The GOP in full retreat.

I think we can put that talking point to bed.

Just called Dick Cheney a corpulent liar and repeatedly made references to him in his "fat tuxedo" trashing people like John Murtha.

Made my heart warm.

3. Yeah, well...
It's just that Reid and Pelosi don't spend their evenings in DC, running around and slitting Repug throats with a straight razor. If they did that, then some people might consider that they might have a spine. ;-)

5. I think we have to thank 2 people the most for this new organization: Dean
and Pelosi.

The fact that this is at least the second bill where the Dems voted 100% no is a sign of that. The other one still passed, but only after DeLay showed up in the House and did arm twisting.

6. Yup - we are all so beaten down that we cry in joy that the Dems
are standing together, which they should have been doing all along.

Yes, they are extremely limited in what they can do with the repubs in charge of the gov't, and yes, it is great that they stood together and defeated this bill, but I find it sort of sad that we are at the point where we have to be this grateful for something that should have been happening all along.

Peace.

8. Yes, they are spineless -- they sold out the American worker yesterday
http://finance.senate.gov/press/Gpress/2005/prg111605.pdf

>>
And speaking of combining the best of both worlds, the bipartisan
bill we are considering today provides long-needed clarification
that cash balance and other types of "hybrid" pension plan designs
are not inherently age discriminatory. Hybrid pensions combine
positive features of both traditional pension plans and defined
contribution plans. These plans have long provided meaningful
retirement benefits to employees. Today, we will help lift the cloud
of legal uncertainty hanging over these plans. At the same time, we
also ensure that the rights of participants are protected and that
the plans truly do meet the needs of today's mobile workforce by
requiring faster vesting of employee benefits in these plans.

>>

THEY SOLD US OUT! The vote was 97-2.

They legalized cash balance pension plans, allowing millions of workers to get hosed.

This could have been a shining moment for them, but it wasn't. They went along with the Republicans.

The Democrats will NEVER become the majority party if they keep acting like Republicans.

Yes, they are SPINELESS WIMPS. The Senate votes yesterday proves it.

That's what he called it.

AND THE DEMS ARE RESPONSIBLE.

21. But what if it all BACKFIRES?!
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 05:23 PM by stopbush
Remember the spineless Dems (Panetta) warning last week that CA Dems better not make too much hay out of Ah-nold's absolute defeat in the CA election or it might backfire? A-holes.

I've said it many times on this board, but I'll say it again: the sheeple like Rs because they see them as unflappable. It doesn't matter if they're dead wrong, they're committed! That's what has been missing in the Dems' corporate persona. Joe Sixpak doesn't want to get in the car with the Ds because they don't want to be told they're going to Disneyland and end up at Knott's Berry Farm!

With the Rs you may be going over a cliff a la Thelma and Louise, but dammit! - at least ya did what ya said you were gonna do, god DAMN it!

The worst thing the Ds could do now is to let up on bushco. They need to go for the jugular. It will win them votes in the short and long term! What's bad about that?

Sometimes the Dems remind me of Cosmo Kramer and his dealings with Johnny Cochran sub Jackie Chiles: just when Jackie's got the tobacco company by the balls, Kramer makes his own deal and settles for a billboard in Times Square rather than the millions Jackie could have won in the case.

Let's stop grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory.

22. Beginning to grow a spine and actually having one are two different things
I'm very pleased to see the Democrats under Harry Reid's new leadership exhibiting some spine of late.

Still, the spine was missing in the majority of Democrats in the House and Senate from 2001 through early 2005. The exceptions to that majority are my heroes and are the ones that really deserve honor and praise.

Let's see how the spine grows in those that lacked it for over four years and see how resilient they are...and if they are as good of spines as those of of Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, Bob Graham, Dennis Kucinich, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Barbara Lee and the others who stood up to the White House when Bush had approval ratings in the 60's and not the low 30's.

I welcome the late-bloomers in spinal growth, but I treasure those who not only had spine, but showed it when it was needed most.

Until the democratic "leadership" gets serious about party discipline, the Dems seem doomed to remain, practically speaking- irrelvant in national politics.

32. I thought Darth Vader in his speech said "spineless politicians"
...guess crashcart realized and got word that the rats were jumping ship so he switched his words to be generic....

But, I agree Will, not only is that argument not applicable to "dems" because of them being the sole critics (now that they have been joined by Republicans) but they also can't call the "Dems" spineless when one takes a look at the Cajones and Backbone the Dems have been showing in the last week....

Wow :wow: I woke up and have been watching the Dems kick ass the last week! Love it! :bounce:
