Chinese copper dealer vanishes
A Chinese trader on the London Metals Exchange who is rumored to have made a bad bet on copper futures has disappeared.

Observers believe that Liu Qibing sold between 100,000 and 200,000 tons of copper short -- promising to deliver it at a lower price than it was selling for at the time. But copper has continued to climb in price, and Liu, or his employers, could be in the hole for about $800 million, the Times of London reported.

One question is whether Liu was working for the Chinese government and whether his trades were approved. Several analysts told the Financial Times Liu's trades, or at least any large ones, would have had to be approved by the Chinese State Reserve Bureau, his presumed employer
