Turn on Randi. Iraqi prisoners threatened with being fed to lions.
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 03:42 PM by Cyrano
The story is that Saddam kept lions in his palace and U.S. tortures threatened to feed them to these lions.

Who the hell would make up something like that?

You just gotta listen.

Given what our criminal administration has already done, if this is a true story, Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld really need to be shipped to the Hague immediately if not sooner.

On edit: Please note my line in the previous paragraph that says, "if this is a true story." I'm not saying that I buy it ... yet.

1. Why are you surprised?
If we raped little Iraqi boys, and killed some of them, why is this a surprise?

5. Soon, very soon, they will come out - unless Busco declares
themselves to be an offcial dictatorship!!!

As long as they come out before the 06 elections.

8. Maybe total shock would be a better description of my response to this.
After 7 decades on this earth and a lifetime of being proud to be an American for the most part, I am now appalled, sickened, disheartened and disgusted by what's going on in and in the name of my country. Bush and his evil minions must surely have a special place in hell awaiting them. Meanwhile, they're doing a fine job of creating hell on earth. Once more, words fail me. TOne of the many reasons why I remain...

3. The issue is
just whom do we believe?

I know there are many folks who will jump at the story, willing to think the worst of the US military. And I know they are certainly no saints. But I want more proof of this before I throw my hat in.

You ask "who the hell would make up something like that?" Well, I'd think it is a PR nightmare for this administration, so I'd guess any number of people could or would.

Before I get flamed, let me reiterate that I am not saying it didn't happen. I never thought we'd hook guys up to car batteries, either. So I am ready to be corrected, but I am remembering the rapes and murders in N.O. and how stories spread and I want to see more on this.

4. It's disgusting. It's something the Germans did to Jews
and homosexuals, gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.

Amazing. And sickening that it's being done in my name.

11. Yeah
The Nazis were all about efficiency, I can't see lions being useful or cost effective.

12. I don't buy it.
First, this was mentioned by two Iraqis suing Rumsfeld and the U.S. gov't for torture. But the lion thing is mentioned nowhere in their lawsuit.

Second, I just don't see some cornfed soldier from Kansas dropping people into lion cages to torture them -- isn't bashing them with a rifle butt and then refusing to feed them a little more likely?

Third, Saddam's son Odai infamously fed people to two pet lions, and so this seems like the sort of thing Iraqis would make up as an example of torture.

Fourth, said lions were reportedly shot by U.S. soldiers a couple years ago.

Torture Iraqis? You bet our soldiers have, and it pains me to hear it.

But threaten them with being fed to lions? I call bullshit.

15. Chalabi-size tall tales?
My guess. I wish Randi would think sometime before spouting off like Limbaugh.

16. Yeah, she desperately needs a good researcher/fact checker...
She's alwys jumping on bullshit bandwagons, like the idea that there are 9 or 10 thousand dead American soldiers because we don't count the ones who die back at hospitals in Europe or America.

There's lots of other times where she's spouted crap, but that's the one shining example I can think of off the top of my head.

17. You better tell that to the Washington Post and Nightline.
Those are the places where the story is being reported.

18. The WP and Nightline, properly, reported this as a story...
that is being told by two Iraqis.

Randi reported it as a story that happened to two Iraqis.

The difference is subtle, but very important.
