Dobson, Focus on the Family in "Happy Meals" for Kids!!!!!
I haven't seen this posted so I hope it isn't a dupe.

My daughter and I, along with her 4- and 5-year old girls, had a morning shopping then stopped at a Chick-fil-A, a very large and popular fast food chain here in GA (great chicken!). We ordered "happy meals" for the grands, settled into our booth, then suddenly my daughter's eyes bug out and she points out the "gift" in the "happy meals": a cd from Focus on the Family! We were so stunned and angry that we immediately tossed them in the trash. Probably we should have kept one of them so see what crap they were putting out.

Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, is a well known Christian who doesn't allow his stores to open on Sundays, and has done a lot of good works for children in need. But THIS is beyond the pale...inviting Dobson into "happy meals" for toddlers and young children, unknowing parents who accept their "gift" and take it home exposing their children to right wing propaganda! There is no LOW these fundies will not take!

5. Oo...I glossed over that. I see "Happy Meal" and I go on automatic.
Dang...I had respect for the owner of Chik-Fil-A for closing his stores on Sundays so his employees could have a day off (on the "Sabbath") but this is just WRONG!

19. Which is kind of a bummer, since their chicken is tasty.
I'm sure it's horribly caloric though.

3. Dobson is a business venture and it makes sense to set up...
a marketing partnership like that to spread his "brand" awareness.

6. Ugh!
They even put that "fundie" crap in with your food! I'm glad we don't have Chick-fil-A here in California.

7. you're right - great chicken!
and i never had a problem with chick-fil-a closing on sundays - if the company owner holds faith that dear, then good for him being able to say "no" to the almighty dollar to keep his faith and sleep at night by closing on his personal day of religion.

but peddling rw religious dogma to kids? well, that steps over the line, doesn't it? that is an attempt to impose his beliefs on others - particularly, it would seem, those young and impressionable. fie on thee- mr. chick-fil-a!

12. I totally agree with you
Closing on Sundays both supports his beliefs and gives his employees a day off. But propaganda to children is off the wall!

8. According to Dobson, young boys should shower with their fathers and be
shown their father's penis to turn them straight. That is the honest truth from the mouth of James Dobson.

18. Wouldn't seeing men's penises turn you gay?
Come on now. If you want to make your son straight, maybe he should shower with his mother and see her vagina.

That makes more sense to me than showing him your penis.

Better: forget all this "turning your son straight" shit and figure that there's a nine-out-of-ten chance your son's straight already. If he's not straight now, he's gonna remain gay. Which has advantages: all you parents with gay sons, how many of them ever knocked up their girlfriends?

11. If I see a Xtian fish on a store, I shop elsewhere.
It's not that I don't like Christians, it's just that I don't like people exploiting their religious beliefs for their own personal gain. If a company thinks that they'll increase their business by advertising that they are Christians, then they just don't need my business.

13. Cathy has gone overboard with his promotion of Christianity recently
I was in a Chick-Fil-A a few months ago, and there was a huge photograph of Cathy at the counter with an inscription along the lines of "Chick-Fil-A stands for Faith and Values." Being gay, I knoow exactly what that means. When I'm hungry for chicken, I can do without that self-righteous pomp.

I've also heard his employees are "encouraged" to pray each day with school-like moments of silence.

Cathy is a kind man who treats his employees well and gives to many good causes, but he needs to tone down his religion and focus on cooking chicken.

16. That's a shame.
I really love Chick-fil-A's chicken, and have fond memories of going there weekly for lunch with my grandmother. However, spreading Robertson's brand of propaganda to children will certainly make me reconsider where I spend my lunch dollar.

20. I never go to Chick-fil-A
because of the religious overtones of the business. Catering to Focus on the Family just underscores why I would continue to avoid that fast food haven.

21. Brer Cat, I really want foryou to be mistaken
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 12:24 AM by GrpCaptMandrake
but I fear you're not.

A very good friend of mine does PR for Chick-Fil-A. She once gave my kids a big bag of their kids meal goodies. It was really well thought out. A toothbrush holder in the b&w cow motif. Books. A little cow thingy that fit over the sink tap. Cute. Fun.

But now Mr. Cathy's cozied up with a guy who says a parent should beat his children "until they cry real tears?"

The shame. The shame. Given everything I've heard about Mr. Cathy, I have to wonder if he *really* knows what Dobson is about.

Personally, I don't much care *what* is on the discs. If they come from Dobson, they're poison.

I'm going to mention this on my show tomorrow. Hope you won't mind.

:wtf:
