Warner vs. Giuliani in '08: My fantasy race
Warner has been elevated in status because of Kaine's victory and gains from the Virginia party. Giuliani is also leading most national polls for the Republican primaries. I believe in reallity that Warner has a better chance of being the Democratic nominee versus Giuliani being the Republican nominee. Despite this, my fantasy race involves these two candidates for these reasons:

1. It will force the red-blue dynamics to change over night. Almost EVERY state will be in play (except for MA, VT, RI on the Democratic side, and UT, NE, Dakotas, and ID on the Republican side.) The Northeast and Midwest will be open to Giuliani, in that NY, PA, NJ, CT, and the Great Lakes state may all be up for grabs. However, the entire South and the Southwest, and even states like Georgia and Montana will be purple. will be too, including Texas, because Giuliani is pro-choice and is reasonable on the issue of gay rights. The radical Christians will not support him or go third party. Both candidates will actually be spending money in NY and TX at the same time! When was the last election where that happened?

2. It will expose Giuliani for the fraud he is. As a New Yorker, I'm sick of having a mediocre Mayor who did some good in the way of crime, but everything else in the way of fascist/douchebag, elevated. The guy has mafia ties and crony ties (Bernard Kerik anyone?) He's also crossdressed in the past, and I will be giddy in putting those pictures up in my suburban NYC neighborhood in four years from now.

3. Rudy will piss off the fundies to no end! Try voting for a Republican who is:
a. pro-choice
b. slept at his gay friend's apartment for a while after his SECOND DIVORCE
We will see a demogogus third party candidate like Roy Moore or James Dobson run, and the Constitution Party will likely be 2008's version of the Green Party.

1. I don't have a problem w/his staying at a gay friend's house, but

3. It might have been just on SNL
But I won't tell any fundies from Alabama that if you won't

8. LOL! My lips are sealed, but I imagine Guiliani
has an uphill battle. People won't take kindly to his history and personally, I'll never forgive or forget his ass-kissing at the RNC.

2. Warner would win the South, a huge plus for his chances of winning.

4. Giuliani won't even carry NY either
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 08:00 PM by Ignacio Upton
NY will go to Warner, but by only 5%-10%, as opposed to the 15%-25% that of 1992-2004. NJ and CT are harder to say because they are generally the more conservative of the NYC suburbs and neither state has ever gone for Demcorats by NY's margains. PA might go for Giuliani, but the "Pennsyltuckty" party of the state may only be pink so it could still go to the Democrats and be blue.

9. If he gets nominated, I will write to every Diocese I can think of
to have them deny communion because he's pro-choice. It's only fair after what they did to Kerry.

They would literally have no candidate. This would marginalize them like nothing else would. Unless Giulani had Brownback or someone like that as VP.

7. I don't think that VP will make a difference
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 08:06 PM by Ignacio Upton
Edwards didn't make Kerry competitive in the South. And even if Brownback's selection helped him solidify with the fundies, he would be hurt in the Northeast and Midwest and West Coast.

10. If Warner were the nominee, I'd love to see him take Feingold or Edwards
Southern Governor + Man of Integrity(Feingold) = Victory!

Southern Governor + Southern Senator with liberal pet issue = reprise of Clinton/Gore and Victory!

12. I like the idea of Feingold or Edwards too
But I don't think that Edwards would want to be "second-fiddle" for two different candidates. Feingold could also help him with Washington experience and to get out the liberal base.

14. Winning the VP is better than continuing to be failed candidate on outside
but that's just me, and you may be right.

11. Who the hell is Warner? Also, Giuliani is slicker than you think
I hope GOP-ers won't feel comfortable about the fact that he has actually some traces of independent thought.

13. Outgoing Virginia Governor
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 08:10 PM by Ignacio Upton
He helped turn around the state's budget deficit after the last Governor, who was beholden to Enron, made a mess of things. Warner's sucessor, Tim Kaine, won election this tuesday. You will hear a lot about him by 2008. Ever hear of Howard Dean back in 2001?

16. Guliani is a trophy wife.
They trot him out to show how tolerant the fascist theocratic party is. His chance of being a national candidate for the rethuglican party is 0.0000000000000001.

First there is the fact that he is from New Your City.
Then there is his incredibaly messy divorce while he was mayor.
Then there was his Odd Couple period after the divorce.

Oh yeah, he is sure to run well with the fundaloons in kansas.

17. That's why this is my fantasy race
It would be our easiest race since Clinton vs. Dole.
