(Rant) This really burns my ass.
I don't answer the phone anymore unless I recognize who the caller is. The problem though my voice call box gets inundated with crap calls! & the really bad part is they are pre recorded messages!!!!

I am on the do not call list. WTF? :grr:

1. Maybe try registering again
 It's really helped at my house. The calls haven't completely stopped, but it has helped a lot.

3. same here. it's a computer making the calls. in my case it
hangs up if i don't answer. there was one showing up on my caller id for weeks, but no message on my machine. the other day i picked it up and it was a recorded message. now that they think they've gotten to me, i hope it will stop.

i'm on the do not call list also. they always find ways around things. modern technology.

5. What kind of pre-recorded messages?
Political groups, pollsters, and companies with which you already do business (like credit card companies) are exempt from the do-not-call rules, I believe. And once you get on the list, it takes a few months to take full effect.

7. Don't know
All the messages say is :please don't hang up all Representatives are busy & will be with you shortly" Well I decided once to wait so I could blow them off but after 20 minutes, I gave up.

It's some kind of automated call system, and when you or your machine pick up it goes on hold, and your machine records that.

11. You're right, they don't,,,,
Try Googling 'do not call', click on 'I'm feeling lucky'. That will get you there.

13. I work for a conference call center, and
every evening we are inundated with calls from people on the "do not call" list who are receiving spam phone calls. The number left on their caller ID is one of our conference call numbers...but we can't dial out; we are incoming only!

What we have discovered is that these spammers have found a way to leave whatever number they want as a call-back number on caller ID. I don't know how they do it, but I sure wish it would stop. It's a very clever way to make sure no one can report them.

I work for a major phone company, and our fraud agents are working non-stop to find out who these people are, because it reflects poorly on my company when people think that we are the ones calling them.

So if you are ever inclined to call back the number on your ID and rant at the person on the other end of the line, please be aware that there is a distinct possibility that they have nothing whatsoever to do with the spam call.

20. That explains it
We're getting the same type of phone calls. One time we looked at the Caller ID and called the number back. The person who answered had no idea what we were talking about.

14. Fire your land line company. Go cellular.
Way fewer soliciatations, better deals on long distance, and all the benefits of a land line in your pocket. Just don't forget to charge the battery.

18. I don't agree with poster #14, but that's purely a personal
opinion. Do check your status on the 'do not call' list -- use the link given above and then back up to the main page (erase everything after donotcall.gov/ and hit enter).

or -- learn to live with the crap.
or -- if you're feeling annoyed, pick it up and then just leave the phone off the hook. Ties up the computer on the other end for awhile.

23. Cable is better and similarly priced.
However, cable companies are just as corrupt and sleazy as the land line phone providers, so you won't win anything there.

in violation of the DoNotCall List AND if they call me again I will turn them in,,,,,

My local landline telephone company was calling me alot trying to sell me more,,,, when I talked to them, they told me they were 'exempt' ~ I threatened to go celluar and they put me on their own DoNotCall List,,,,,

21. Same here
And I was getting these on my cell phone for awhile! I called my carrier and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Then, mysteriously, the cell phone sales calls stopped :eyes:
