I will not let this corrupt Admin smear my Dad's service

Meet my dad Thomas Nicholas. He fought in WWII in the Pacific. Ate maggot infested rice, slept in mud holes when he got the chance. He went out and served his country with pride. My Grandparents had two sons fighting for the USA at the same time. They were lucky enough to have both of their boys come home. A few years later a 3rd son fought in the Korean War - he too made it home. My mother's brothers both fought in WWII also. ALL FIVE OF THESE MEN ARE/WERE DEMOCRATS!

How dare these chickenhawk liars use Veteran's Day as a political ploy to try and defend the horrendous lies and policies regarding the Iraq war. They have pissed on the graves of every person that has ever died for and/or served this country.

How dare they question the support of the military of those who question them when their policies that have left over 2000 American families destroyed by their lies. This doesn't even include the 10's of thousands or Iraqi families that have suffered these same losses and pain.

How dare they continue to use the 'Support the Troops' line while they are the ones who continue to show a disregard for the troops never seen before in this history of this country.

Thomas Nicholas was buried July 12, 1998. His coffin proudly displayed an American flag which symbolized the country and values he fought for in his youth.

Thomas Nicholas would cry today to see how his service and that of his comrades have been trivialized into a damned political football by a bunch of lying, cheating chickenhawks.

Thomas Nicholas would get up and fight for America today if he could. I will fight in his memory and in his honor. I refuse to let the sacrifices of all our veterans go to waste for the greedy goals of these neocons.

I miss you Dad. Thank you for your service and know your proud daughter has had it with these bastards and will not let you down.

Now... let's get busy for 2006 and get these hypocrits out of power!

1. Hugs to nini
What a wonderful tribute to a beloved heroic and handsome father.

I wish I could post my own Dem dad's photo from WWII. And I had a Dem uncle who made it through the Death March. My father and uncle would be crushed to see what has happened to the country they served and loved. Both would have questioned the reasons for the blood spilling and most likely be branded unpatriotic for doing so.

are chicken-hawks and it would not do for us all to pass the time pondering the people who went to war (and actually were on the fronts) unlike them.

(by "mine" I mean my war vets).

so few of them or their family members actually served.

They can send soldiers to war, but will never go and fight themselves.

6. I was lucky enough to...
.. inherit a journal, that my father wrote during his long stay in the VA hospital. I have spent a lot of time researching and studying the Korean war. I have tried to reconstruct his time there using the journal, old maps, and what history I can find of the battles and offensives he was in.

I will treasure it forever.

7. We found letters my dad wrote during the war to my grandma
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 08:20 PM by nini
He had saved them after his mother died.

One of them was very poignant. He was telling her to not grieve for a friend of her's who had just died because he was in a better place. I'm sure he had no idea while he wrote those words his own daughter's would read them the day after he died. It was a truly wonderful moment for us.

He didn't have a journal though. That would have been something. Yes, treasure it - it is a priceless reminder of him.

10. Did you dad ever talk about the war?
My dad never spoke of it much. If he did, it was always some funny story he told about basic training or something. My mother tells me that he never told her anything either. He kept everything bottled up inside him until the day he died.

You would think that he would at least want his children to know about the horrors of war. To remind us that war is the last resort. I guess it is something that I will never fully understand. After reading his journal I know for a fact that he suffered from what he experienced in that terrible war. It gave me a better understanding of what he may have experienced, and believe from reading his entries I never want to experience what he went through.

I got so angry at Bush when he was making a joke by looking under his chair for WMD's. How could he do such a thing when our children are getting killed and mangled in HIS war! His mother and father differently did something wrong.

I'm so mad at this president. So mad that I don't dare put my feelings down in words on this board. I'm more made for his actions after he started this war, then before the war. Actions like today.

I didn't know why hated rice until he was dying.. it was because of the maggots in it when he was in New Guinea. They were eating maggot infested rice while Mac Arthur was shipping in his fancy furniture :grr:

9. Infuriating isn't it?
My dad asked me tonight where these alledged veteran * supporters are hiding out? Beats the hell outta me, Dad. My husband and I were both Army, he still is, and none of our military friends are * lovers. But it's for my Dad's sake that I get so mad I shake. He came home from Vietnam weighing a whopping 130 lbs, at 6'1. He looked like a concentration camp survivor, really. :shaking my head: They gave him a Bronze Star while he was laying in a hospital bed in Japan, and these <insert expletive of your choice> dare to question his service or devotion to his country because he's a Democrat? What the hell has happened to this country?

15. amen! i just watched "saving private ryan" again...
the horrors and the bravery of war those troops experienced.

my dad was a korean vet, but he'd seen his share of death and destruction, as all combat vets have.

i got so upset to the point of tears thinking about how bush and his chickenhawk fiends have dishonored our troops by bringing the world to the point of burning american flags wherever he goes.

what a memorial, dubya!

to these chickenhawks, troop sacrifices mean nothing! troops are tools to be used to further bushco business deals and profits.

these greedy cowards wrap themselves in the flag while desecrating it at the same time!

And he obviously did a great job raising you.

I also miss my dad. He died in 1990. He was a Korean War Vet, a life-long Democrat, and a union activist.

I'm lucky enough to have my step-dad, also a Korean War Vet. He lost most of his hearing driving a tank in Korea. What a great guy he is. He also is a life-long Democrat, and he DESPISES George Bush.

I honor my uncle today. He was at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He never spoke of it for the rest of his life.

George Bush should be absolutely ashamed of himself for using Veteran's Day as a political tool. Damn chickenhawk slime.

19. ahhh thank you nini...my dad as well would be crying today and popa
my dad was a sea bee in the so. pacific..
he was also left by mc arthur on guam for dead...

my dad hated mc arthur and the red cross!!..

my dad drove a truck through a piece of the china wall..

and he would never buy anything not made in the usa..he would not ever let a foreign car be parked in the driveway!!

he died at 62 ..he had gotten rheumatic fever in WWII..and malaria...

the rheumatic fever damaged his heart..he died young...

a couple years ago my hubby and i took our son to pearl harbor..to fly a flag for my popa..my grandpa was a gunner on the USS ARIZONA in WWI..he left his eye on that ship...and my son got to hoist a flag for his great- grandpa..and the flag flew for 24 hours and then my son was given it..with a certificate that his great grandpa served on the USS Arizona...it was a very moving ceremony...one i will never forget...

my husbands dad was a spanish laborer in Pearl Harbor, building the oil tanks ..he dug underground when Pearl Harbor was hit..he went on to fight in europe..and landed on Utah Beach in Normandy...i also took my son there so he could see where his grandpa fought...

i wanted my son to understand the sacrifice his grandfathers and great grandfather made for his freedom...
i have always thought that important for our children to understand...

my dad almost disowned me during vietnam as i protested every chance i had..we disagreed horribly...

but 4 days before my dad died..he held my hand and told me..i was right , and he was wrong...and he had alot of guilt about it...

the last 2 days my dad was alive he hallucinated alot..and he re-lived the war..it was horrible to watch and experience...he made us duck under his hospital bed..he was terrified..i am crying just writing this...

it was a lifetime away..and he still had to relive that war in his last living moments...

it was a horrible thing to see in someone you love so dearly...

my heart breaks for our kids who are being put into this lie of a war..the same kind of filthy lies told about vietnem...god help them ...

i wonder if one day their kids will write about the fear in their parents faces..and eyes.. when they are leaving in their final days...and have the same tears i have ..and the same hurt i have for a wonderful man ..who was a mans man..who was a war hero..who loved his country...and his family..but fought to keep our nation free...

this war had nothing though to do about freedom..so what will they think they fought for???

will their nightmares be like those of young men who were sent to vietnam for lies...those young men..my peers..they have lived with a horrible burden...they were and are the brave among us...who were used ..and lied to..they fought for the right reasons..it was their nation that let them down!!

i salute every man and woman who has worn our uniform...who loved our nation enough to put their lives on the line for all of us..

and i pray to god we never do this to any other of our children and we as a nation grow a fucking spine and stand up to any damn chicken hawk that ever uses our bravest for their sick agenda!!

god bless our soldiers...and may we all fight every day for the truth ..and shut * the fuck up until we do get the truth..many of us know the truth..but i want that son of a bitch to have to answer for the murder of our soldiers!!

* is a yellow bellied coward..but a sick pathetic coward...and i want him to pay for what he has done to my dads country , my grandpas country, my father in- laws country..and yes even my mother in law who was in the army..her country!

and my sons country ..and your dads, husbands, grandpas, brothers sisters.. and your children's country!

30. Nini, that is an excellent post!
My father is a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. He served 20 years and he absolutely despises Shrub. My father said if it came down to voting for Al Sharpton or George Bush, Sharpton got his vote.

Shrubby did a great disservice to our vets today. ( I am a vet, also. USN 1986-1991. ) He put himself above our fighting men and women and showed the country where his priorities lie. They certainly don't involve our soldiers and sailors and marines.

Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 10:00 AM by wellstone dem
in India. His brothers served in Europe. All are strong democrats. I don't think I've ever seen my Dad more sad, then when he speaks about his fear for his Grandchildren in the country being created by this administration. My Dad will be 86 this November, and he tells me one of the reasons he keeps going is so that he can vote next year.

Yesterday I called my Dad, as I do every Nov. 11, to thank him for his service. He told me again, that he was proud to have served in a war which was truly for the protection of the vulnerable, a war where people were asked to sacrifice because it was the right thing to do, and he grieved for his niece who is being asked to serve to protect business interests rather than people.
