Rice makes surprise visit to Iraq
Rice appeals to Iraqs Sunnis for cooperation
Secretary of state makes surprise visit to Iraq;
3 more U.S. troops die

MOSUL, Iraq - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a personal appeal Friday for Iraqis to bridge sectarian differences, venturing to a majority Sunni Arab region of the country to ask for cooperation in the coming election.

I want to talk about the importance of reaching across sectarian lines, and the future of Iraq has to be one which includes everyone, Rice said on her unannounced visit to this northern Iraqi city, which is about 60 percent Sunni Arab.

Rice made the comments to reporters traveling with her to the region. The secretary arrived at a military airport and rode by helicopter to a U.S. base, flying over sheep grazing next to the roofless shells of bombed-out buildings and houses.

1. it'll be a real surprise when they stop being surprise visits
cowards. I love how it sounds: "surprise visit" - as if its some present, an unexpected treat that falls from the heavens. Rather than a panicked, stealthy, in-and-out jaunt due to the shall we say, "unstable security situation."

stupid fuckups.

3. Like a thief skulking in the night
When they can go in there with a two-week advance notice, a public speech and a walkaround public tour then I'll be impressed that Iraq is a stable, friendly country.

But, that day will never come.

2. "Rice tries to bury current news cycle of bad news for Bush"
..."goes to the two most cushy spots in Iraq in an attempt to change the subject on the Sunday talk shows."

MSM was Way off with their headline.
