Air America Radio steadily gains audience
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 09:04 PM by TrueAmerican
It takes time to build an audience. Radio Talk Shows don't usually catch fire overnight. This is a long slow process of building audience.

These compare Summer 05 to Summer 04 for the most part.

ABQ: Up from last year
Baton Rouge WYNK-AM : Up .5 from last year

West Palm Beach: down 1.1 from last year
Spokane: up .4
Chatanooga up .3
Austin up .7
Sacramento up .1 (note this is AAR old station, they moved to more powerful station on 30 Oct)
Phoenix up 1.5
Portland, OR up .4
Miami, up .8
Seatle up 1.3
Denver up 1.0
Cincinnati down .2 from Music format...but it's now trending back up in the last 2 quarters.
San Fran: down .7 from different format...but it's now trending back up in the last 2 quarters.
L.A. Up .6 from sports format, trending up since going Progressive talk.
N.Y. down .2
Chicago up .7 from different format

The reception west of Downtown Fort Worth is horrible.

3. I wish the reception would improve.
I often don't even listen because of all the static and interference from other stations.

At certain times of the day, the signal gets crossed with interference. Also... in Boston of all places, the reception is really bad.

I am no longer supporting NPR as it has become quite unprogressive.

23. I'll be happy to donate if they'll keep Marc Maron on Morning Sedition
The whole program is in danger, for that matter. Listen to it if you're unfamiliar. If you like it, please help keep it on the air, including signing the petition to keep it on:

Aso, you can e-mail Rob Glaser of RealNetworks. His email address is [email protected]

He is on the AAR board and described by James Wolcott as "the big mover on the AAR board."

Wolcott's column on this subject is at:

An interesting article on the Marc situation is here:

I don't get AAR here, but I'm a regular listener to several AAR programs thanks to podcasts.

Satellite radio is going to be the best thing that has happened to progressive radio....keep the pressure on Sirius for Air America.

31. Including a Scaife-Limbaugh relationship?
I know about Scaife and the PA newspaper, magazines, AK troopers, etc., but like I said, this was a first.

Does the book cover a Scaife-Limbaugh relationship specifically?

15. This doesn't take into account people like me
who listens to it via the net. My dad is absolutely hooked to AAR. He listens to it on an old computer one of my brothers gave him. He does nothing on that computer except listen to AAR and check ESPN for scores. I've also got several brothers also listen to it via the internet.

And that's just my family. A lot of my friends listen to it on and off all day.

I live in Horizon City. I used to listen to 600 in the morning, they had a local "liberal" comedian on, but they replace him with some right winger sports guy.

21. I also listen on the Internet, even though there's a broadcast
station airing AAR in nearby Atlanta. Al Franken is taking a huge career risk doing this--and he's probably AAR's best hope.
Ironically, right wing radio may benefit from the backlash against Bush--the shrill and aggressive tone does best when conservative listeners are angry.

I was floored late last week when I turned on the radio to listen to Rhandi and, instead, I hear Ed Schultz. Fortunately, I can still stream.

25. They lost me here in austin, they got rid of Randi in the afternoon...
I now listen to books on tape. I loved Randi, now she's gone.

And if they get rid of Mark Marin in the mornings, that will be it for me listening. I go to sleep to early to listen to anything at night.

The only two shows I listen to and then are going away. :(

It's the pits. I'm back to streaming most of the time. They delay Randi and don't delay Morning Sedition, and the entire weekend is full of infomercials.

If you can't peddle liberal ideas in this area, you're as dumb as a guy who can't find oil in Bahrain. (Wasn't it Bahrain * couldn't find oil in?)

33. Looking at the New Haven, CT market
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/DetailsPage.aspx?MID=181&RY=2005&RQ=2&MP=0&OTHER=2&MN=New%20Haven&MS=CT&MR=108&12P=416100&UP=7/22/2005%2012:00:00%20AM&SU=S&BPER=13.4&HPER=&OPER=&NSD=&CE=0

It appears WAVZ 1300AM doesn't even make the list. WABC-AM out of NY is there, but not the local AAR affiliate? In the town where Yale University is located?

I don't think this is a matter of lack of interest, but rather a lack of power. Low wattage radio stations aren't helping! I can get WABC-AM in Hartford, but not the much closer WAVZ.

When will the fucking AAR management get it throught their thick skulls that people will have a better chance of listening to AAR on Sirius (another moranic AAR decision) than from the shitty, can't-even-power-a-lightbulb terrestrial stations they sign up.

Send Goldberg's ass to the boardroom! Fire Goldberg now!

34. Keep in mind, WPB ONLY has Randi...
So from 9 AM to 3 PM, you hear BAD RADIO (Glenn BecKKK and oxyRUSHitler Lardass) but consider that, it's nothing short of AMAZING that Randi is STILL #1 from 3 to 7 PM on that station. Blimpo, in his HOME MARKET of West Palm, always comes in at 22nd or 23rd place! Now for Randi to get 10 or 11 shares EVERY book with THAT horrid of a lead in is a downright MIRACLE!!!!!!!! "OH BUTT LIBULZ AM BE DON'T SELL..." STFU!

37. It drives me batty when there is more ad time than air time.
I listen to AAR in the car on my way to work and often the ads take more time than what it takes me to drive to where I'm going. I wish they could break them up better, or somehow incorporate them in the show itself. They lose listeners with the loooong commercials because people tend to turn the channel when they know a ten minute commercial is coming on.
