Democrats Rip White House on Iraq Claim

<snip>But Sen. Richard Durbin (news, bio, voting record), D-Ill., said the issue wasn't why Tenet failed to keep the information out of the speech but who was so determined to put it in and why.

"All roads still lead back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," he said, referring to the White House address. "The question is, Who in the White House was so determined to put information in the State of the Union which had been discounted so dramatically by American intelligence sources?"

Durbin and other Democrats said Tenet had named White House officials who had sought to include the information in the speech, but the Democrats declined to identify them, citing the confidentiality of the proceedings.

1. Senator Durbin rocks!
His regular-joe demeanor would have been a nice asset for Gore in 2000. We probably won't see him in 2004, however, since security will be the name of the game.

4. I hope
Dick challenges Daschle for Majority Leader in 05. He's much less of an enabler than Tom.

3. Probably not much
will run for the GOP here. I think that Rove will just let this one go. The GOP is almost dead here. I was hoping that Jesse Jr. would run, but as it stands now I think I like Obama.

7. Here is the current GOP lineup
http://www.dailyherald.com/dupage/main_story.asp?intID=37818289

"With the six high-tech companies he helped create valued at more than $1 billion, Dr. Chirinjeev Kathuria knows how to pounce on opportunity.

A non-practicing physician from Oak Brook, Kathuria began amassing his fortune with a wireless phone company in India, and since then has done everything from working with Sweden on health care issues to helping form the company that put civilian Dennis Tito in space.

And now Kathuria, 38, sees another opportunity — this time in the battle to replace U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, an Inverness Republican who opted against a second term.

(snip)

"...a host of Republicans have flocked to the race or shown interest, including: former investment banker Jack Ryan of Wilmette, businessmen Andy McKenna of Glenview, John Cox of Chicago and Jim Oberweis of Aurora, state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger of Elgin and RTA Chairman Thomas McCracken of Darien.
