A fiery Kerry works the crowd -- Democrat says GOP twists religion
http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051106/REPOSITORY/511060392/1001/NEWS01

Some highlights:

"As a Christian, as a Catholic, I think hard about those responsibilities that are moral and how you translate them into public life. And I'm tired of watching a whole bunch of people who talk about that faith not go out and live it."

"He said the September images of Hurricane Katrina brought "the stripping away of the fakery, of the spin, and what it left behind is people's understanding of the reality of this connection of the choices government makes or doesn't make, and what happens to people."

"That guy Brownie - you know, the Brownie guy, 'You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie'- Michael Brown, who still incidentally is on the payroll at $140,000 a year or whatever," Kerry said. "He is to Katrina what Paul Bremer was to post-war Iraq management, what Paul Wolfowitz is to our troops . . . what Dick Cheney is to visionary energy policy, what Tom DeLay is to ethics in government, what George Bush is to 'mission accomplished.'"

(Clarkie note: Eh, that's an old one. But good for him to point out that Brownie is still on the payroll.)

"Afterward, some spoke with a certain wistfulness about what might have been. But everyone said Kerry's visit was about strengthening the party at the local level, not about nostalgia. Through his political action committee, Kerry has raised or contributed nearly $2.5 million to candidates across the country, including Baines. Before the rally, Kerry met privately with a group of local candidates, community advocates and union leaders. Afterward, he headed west for a Vermont Democratic Party event."

1. Well said
Sounds like Kerry's finally realized that the voting country doesn't want intelligent debates, but simple and easy to digest soundbites - and that is a damn good one.

2. Good soundbites
Sounds much better than, "I actually voted for it, before I voted against it."

7. Good stuff, Kerry's speaking style keeps getting better and better.
The particular complaints about Kerry's speaking style, are becoming moot.

8. It's yesterday and I need a dollar
I'm so saddened by his having torpedoed his bright future by placating these murderous torture freaks and standing down on Ohio.

9. How can he have stood down when he's still there
If the bloody lawsuit would ever go to court, dagnabit!

What do you mean by placate, btw.

15. He should have gone to Ohio and camped. Not concede.
Sorry, don't mean to tamp the joy in his words. I just assumed he would ACT after what happened with Gore. Did you see Michael Moore's movie? Warehoused machines, while black voters stood in rain for hours.

20. You're talking about suppression then instead of fraud
I'm told he's involved in two lawsuits involving suppression, one of them involving the League of Women Voters.

Sadly, he wasn't going to be able to flip the election based on suspicions. Without hard, take it to court evidence there wasn't alot he COULD do right after the election.

And also sadly, when he talked about the rampant suppression on MLK Day in a speech, he got bitched at by people saying he was just trying to score political points.

Actually, I think that was one of his problems last year. His campaign looked like it was preparing for the recounts of 2000, not the Diebolded machines of 2004. They were about 4 years behind the times, it appeared.

It is said, however, that he is quietly still concerned with the possible fraud. There are those who think that "quietly" is a good thing, as it needs to be worked on by people who are NOT the candidate.

for August of 2006? Do you know about that? I remember reading something about that in the 2004 forum.

21. Oh yeah, I think you might be right.. I don't read that forum usually.
But I think someone in the last week said that in a Kerry-related thread.

Sorry about that.

13. Don't be saddened.
A lot of people see the 2004 election as a War, and they think our side lost the war. Not true. It was a battle. The war continues and it would have continued with Kerry in the White House. The war won't be over when we get a Democrat, any Democrat, in the White House. They have infiltrated our government at all levels. They have poisoned the minds and hearts of our people. They will not be stopped in a single election. We need to fight everything they stand for or we will lose more than an election. Our rights are being decimated in the Congress as we speak. We cannot look backward and cry over what could have been. There is work to be done.

Don't be saddened. His future will always be bright because he will always be fighting for us.

10. Go Kerry!
I'm glad that he's out and about expressing his anger towards this administration. I just watched his Georgetown speech on the Iraq War today, which was also very good.

11. Wish I'd seen that. Was it on CSPAN
Dang, I always miss the good stuff.

Like Gore, I think he's gotten angrier since the election. Sometimes they remind me of each other. It was almost funny around the time of the possible Senate nuclear implosion, Gore gave a speech, and after talking about one of the lies the GOP was telling, exclaimed "HELLO?!" Around the time of the Bolton vote, Kerry was giving a speech talking about Voinovich and how Lugar said he'd never seen a Senator do such a thing. Kerry exclaimed "WHAT?! You mean to tell me you've never seen someone STOP, and THINK?!"

At that moment, he reminded me of Gore.

Yes it was on CSPAN but I was watching it from the website. Just go to Cspan.org and type in John Kerry under video and sort it by date so the most recent one comes up. It's a little over an hour. He had a lot of good lines like how asking questions wasn't pessimism, it was patriotism. Also how the most important word, aside from love, is citizen. All in all, a very good speech. One of his best, IMO.

14. I loved that speech!
It was so cute how he looked down at his wife when he said the word "love" and then he introduced Teresa as the best citizen he knows. And it was in the Q&A after the speech, so it was impromptu.
