CONNECT THE DOTS! Cheney, GOP meeting, McCain?
Okay, try this on for size.

We know that Cheney wants the CIA exempted from any rule on torturing prisoners.

We know that Cheney knows about those secret prisons and we know they are run by the CIA.

We know that Cheney attended that GOP luncheon that Lott is saying the leak on the prisons came from.

We know that McCain was also at that luncheon.

Perhaps Cheney discussed the secret prisons with someone - maybe more than one - at that GOP luncheon in an effort to push exempting the CIA from any rules on torturing.

Perhaps then it was discussed by others who were at the GOP luncheon and McCain heard about it.

We know that McCain is bitterly opposed to torture and bitterly opposed to Cheney's idea of exempting the CIA from torture rules.

Perhaps that makes McCain the leaker on the secret prisons - an assault on Cheney's push for exempting the CIA from torture rules.

Discuss amongst yourselves!

1. Seeing all the trouble Libby's in for leaking, to you think
McCain would risk it?

Only because it may be McCain will there be calls for an investigation. It's the BFEE Rethugs vs. the McCain/moderates.

3. Ha! Are you saying Cheney leaked as a set up on McCain? Because
of Abram*** investigation and the torture bill?

Interesting.

Along those lines - since we are speculating - the leak of prisons could be a leak just to innoculate the GOP from charges of being leakers.

Some day we will know the truth of most of this stuff. Until then, until the witnesses come out, take a deep breath and we will have to wait.

5. I had not thought about that.
Cheney is dirty, but I doubt even he would come up with that.

No, I think he thought he could trust those Senators not to tell his smelly secret about the torture prisons.

8. Cheney's an asshole, but he isn't stupid.
In Washington, you keep your mouth shut if you don't want to get crunched. With the amount of scrutiny he's already receiving over Plamegate, I can't see him openly confiding in a gaggle of Senators about such a hot potato. I hope he did, but I just don't see him doing this unless it's to set up something or someone else. This whole thing just smells foul...

9. To make themselves look like the victims. If true. Disgusting.

10. Cheney is arrogant enough that he thinks he can do anything.
If it served his purpose of getting Senators to agree with exempting the CIA from torture rules, that would enable him to keep those torture prisons active.

He would do that in a heartbeat.

I don't think he cares about the Fitzgerald investigation. He is that arrogant.

11. It just doesn't hold water.
Here's a guy that's smart enough to get himself appointed to the Vice Presidency, hide the minutes of a closed-door 'divide the loot' energy meeting while flipping the bird to anyone attempting to get at them through the FOIA, help trump up evidence to start an unprovoked war, expose an undercover CIA agent, and all without getting LYNCHED, much less indicted for anything. Now, he's just going to openly use the TRUTH to get the torture ban removed from the war bill? Don't think so. Just doesn't add up.

12. You make some good points.
But somebody in that GOP luncheon knew about the secret torture prisons.

Who else could it be?

13. That's a good question.
I wish I had an answer for it. That's why I said this smells reaaal fishy.

I hope the bastard DID blab. More gasoline on the GOP bonfire...get the marshmallows!

6. If the Repugs call for Fitzgerald's office to investigate it I will buy it
If they want to keep it in house this is nothing but smoke and mirrors to get the media light off the real crimes of this administration.

Fair enough?

7. I think they will back down on calling for an investigation.
The fact that the Bush administration has set up secret torture prisons should be investigated.

But they are not calling for that to be investigated.

They are calling for an investigation into who leaked the secret. If it is true, as Lott is saying, that the leak came from a GOP Senator, there is no way on earth that they will want the leaker investigate.

14. Developments flying on this!
Now it is being reported that Frist has not signed the letter calling for the investigation and he had until 6 eastern.

BUT the CIA beat them to it!

The CIA has turned this over to the DOJ!!!

Republicans are so stupid!

15. There is one common denominator between this and Plame
Cheney's office. I think someone in Cheney's office has loose lips and it's not just Libby.
