Who Are These People? new song from Burt Bacharach
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:14 PM by undeterred
Who Are These People?

Lyrics by Burt Bacharach and Tonio K.

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

Who are these people that destroy everything
And sell off the future for whatever it brings
And what kind of leaders can’t admit when they’re wrong?
Make em stop

This stupid mess we’re in just keeps getting worse
So many people dying needlessly
Looks like the liars may inherit the earth
Even pretending to pray
And getting away with it

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
We’ve got to make them stop

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
and who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

See things really have to change
Before it’s too late

7. i don't think bacharach was ever a las vegas lounge singer.....
as far as i know, he was only a composer. i don't think he even wrote lyrics or sang at all until this new CD.

9. I think you're right - he's primarily a composer
who has done some lyrics, no singing that I know of.

2. I guess I'll have to give it a 10
because even without hearing it I'm willing to bet it has a catchy beat and that you can dance to it. Just kidding.

Now tell me again, who wrote this? Burt Bacharach? Wonders never cease.

Where Did It Go

Lyrics by Burt Bacharach & Tonio K.

Stop the clock
Make it stop

Where’d it go
I don’t know

Stop the clock
Make it stop

Where is that world
Where did it go?

When I was a young boy
12 years old
Growing up in New York city
I could ride the subway by myself
And never, ever be afraid
Where did it go?

And tell me what happened to that world I knew
Is it really gone?
How did we wind up in this place instead
Is it really gone?

Now I have a boy who’s 12
And a girl who’s 9
And a son in college
And I worry all the time
Worry ‘bout their future
What will it bring?
‘Cause nobody is safe these days
Where did it go?

How do we get back to that other place?
There’s gotta be a way
How do we un-do a thousand mistakes?
See there’s got to be a way

Where is that world
Where did it go?

12. I hope Alice Cooper is losing sleep over it.
He's spoken of being a large fan of Burt Bacharach (yes, really) and for those who still don't know, Cooper's become a virulent right-wing Xtian W-bot (grrrrrr)

I used to be a big Cooper fan in my need-a-male-hero teen angst years, and it hurt me plenty when I finally realized he really HAD betrayed the me and the rest of the good guys (IMO) so a little how-does-it-feel? makes me have a tiny smidgen of warm fuzzy.

13. What the world needs now is love
(from the sixties)
Burt Bacharach

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.

Lord, we don't need another mountain,
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross,
Enough to last till the end of time.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.

Lord, we don't need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh listen, lord, if you want to know.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.

No, not just for some, oh, but just for everyone

A House is Not a Home
Alfie
Baby It’s You
I Say a Little Prayer for You
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

Pretty prolific. Good that somebody is writing protest songs.

27. but well worth it, many beautiful, engaging, and powerful songs
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 07:02 PM by Nabia2004
The verity of songs, in all styles is wonderful and in radio quality for the most part. Most of the music is in the public domain ready for downloading. I have noticed that monetary donations are welcome but not necessary, and of course many of the artists have CDs ready for purchase. All of the artists share a common goal, to get the word out too stop the insanity.

23. Lyrics to Protest Songs
Rickie Lee Jones - CD The Evening Of My Best Day

ugly man

he's an ugly man
he always was an ugly man
he grew up to be like his father
an ugly man

and he'll tell you lies
he'll look at you and tell you lies
he grew up to be like his father
ugly inside

hey - ugly man
what's the plan?
if people knew
what would they do
to the ugly man?
Having fun?
but will we be here
when you're done
with me....?

revolution
now it's finally going to come
everywhere that you're not looking
Revolution

and we'll take it back
now we take the country back
everywhere that you're not looking
ugly man
ugly man
ugly man

lyrics by rickie lee jones c. 2003 all rights reserved

little mysteries

a gypsy boy came up to you
with a newspaper spread across his arm
to hid his fingers in your pocket...

meanwhile, in another part of town
i buy a ticket for a game
and la petite femme, smoking les gitanes
is writing down my name

oh, little mysteries, little mysteries
yeah, little mysteries, little mysteries

a plane goes down in kc, mo
in a simple twist of fate
a trail of lies leads us to orlando
but we are days too late

for a certain brother down in florida
famous for his cake
and when the boys came over from texas
they said "we'll take everything we can take..."

oh, little mysteries, little mysteries
yeah, little mystereis, little mysteries

nobody wants to know
nobody wants to see

now four years later
another senator hits the ground
this time the boys make sure
that his wife is with him when he goes down

and while everybody's looking up
in a race too close to call
t he election quietly slips into
the third door down the hall.

oh, little mysteries, little mysteries.
yeah, little mysteries, little mystereies

could be next to you.
someone you've known for years
a car parked down by the airport
at the edge of town.....

lyrics by rickie lee jones c. 2003 all rights reserved

tell somebody (repeal the patriot act now)

not long ago it was alright
there were no bad dreams that kept me up at night
it was not brother against brother
mother against mother

so tell somebody,
you've got to tell somebody
tell somebody what happened in the usa

now they want us to just get in line
behind a president
when you know they spent milions of dollars
condemning and accusing
the last one from the other side

tell somebody, tell somebody
tell somebody
what's happening in the usa?
tell somebody, tell somebody
tell somebody
what happened in the usa

tell somebody, tell somebody, tell somebody…

i want to know how far you will go
to protect our right of free speech?
because it only took a moment
before it faded out of reach...

oh, tell somebody, tell sombody right now
tell somebody
what happened in the usa?
i wanna read about it in the news
i wanna hear about it on tv, yeah
what happened in the usa?
when they ask you
what happened in the usa?
tell sombody.
they'll wanna know, oh people

the depth of our democracy
is only as good as the voices of protest she protects
voices of protest - rise!

Oh no
Why did we have to go?
Bush keeps on lying
Children keep on dying

Please Please
Can’t we pack and leave
Smirk aint no savior
Forty-three’s a failure

Bush lied! Soldiers died!
The heart of America broke inside
Whoever dreamed it could be so bad,
He’s the worst President that we’ve ever had

Get out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get out.

Abuse
What is our excuse?
Lost their hearts and minds
Leave it all behind

War Crimes
Have we all gone blind?
They order us to trust them
(This) ain't the Country I grew up in

Bush lied! Soldiers died!
The soul of America lost Her pride
Whoever dreamed we could be so cruel,
Didn’t we tell you that Bush was a fool?

Get out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get out.

Oh no
Why did we have to go?
Bush keeps on lying
Children keep on dying

Please Please
Can’t we pack and leave
Smirk aint no savior
Forty-three’s a failure

Bush lied! Soldiers died!
The heart of America broke inside
Thousands are dead, what have we done?
You can’t make peace at the end of a gun

Get out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get out.

Bush lied! Soldiers died!
The soul of America lost Her pride
Whoever dreamed it could be so bad,
He’s the worst President we ever had
Get out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get

Out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get

Out of Iraq
Get out of Iraq
Get out, get out, get OUT!
