Have you ever been threatened for not supporting Bush?
I have, once. About two years ago. I received an e-mail after I wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper (he must have looked up my e-mail address). He told me that I had better watch my back, because that's how "traitors" are dealt with.

1. I've never been threatened, but I've had several store clerks
argue with me because I don't support our fearless leader.

I guess I feel indirectly threatened because I wouldn't put a Dean or Kerry bimper sticker on my car for fear that some local yahoo would key it.

16. What store clerks are these?
Most places specifically outline that their employees should not engage in political discussions. I know, I had to bite my tounge many times around people proudly looking for Mann Coulter and Sean Hannity books and actually claiming the store was owned by liberals if it didn't have the books displayed in the front window.

18. Well, one was Blockbuster when I rented Farenhight 911
The other was the local liquor store! They have a TV up on the wall and there was some news commentary on about some Pubs getting indicted (Noe in Ohio I think). We were at the checkout and commented "Yeah, they ought to indict them all, including Bush!" I guess I shouldn't have said it, but it really pissed off the cashier! She agreed with the guys in Ohio being arrested, but for sure not HER Pres!

3. Does your local paper have a rival paper in the area?
Bet they would like to have that information... would sell a lot of papers and hurt the editor who threatened you. Not sure how deep you want to get into it tho.

Sheesh.

"I'M HERE, MOTHER FUCKERS!!! COME AND GET ME!!! I'LL EVEN KNEEL DOWN FOR YOU TO MAKE IT EASY!!! I DON'T SUPPORT THAT ASSWIPE GEORGE MONKEYSHIT OR HIS SNARLING GIRLFRIEND CHENEEEEEEYYYY!!!! BETTER SHOOT MY TRAITOR ASS NOW!!! COMMIT MURDER BECAUSE I DON'T SUPPORT YOUR FUCKING PRESIDOUCHE!! COME AND GET ME!!!!"

DAMN that makes my blood boil when I hear that shit. WHO do these people think they are? This isn't some personal little 80s macho movie painted into real life. And he should get the hell out of journalism. It's about investigating all sides, not doing away with views that oppose.

6. I'm sure he didn't have the courage to sign his name...
wonder how mr. deals-with-traitors feels about the current crop of traitors in Washington?

Also wonder what his take on betraying covert intelligence operatives is? Sounds like a traitorous act to me.

Perhaps you can address the contents of his email in the subject of an OP-ED piece by you? The power of the pen is mighty. ;)

I've been called un-American. And I have had my car window smashed ( I wasn't present at the time), which I attribute to the 'F the President' sticker I have in the window.

13. Yes, A Week Before Invasion at a Small Street Demo
this EXTREMELY angry freeper-type drove past me and a small group of people I was demonstrating with on a neighborhood street corner.

He circled back around and pulled up next to me in his dump truck and got out and starting really screaming. I mean eyes and veins bulging, fist balled, the whole thing. He was screaming at me about how stupid I was and how people like me should have their asses kicked and how he was gonna shove my sign up my ass.

He was seriously ranting, but he wasn't crazy. I could easily tell that he was the type of guy that gets in fist fights on a regular basis. He was beating his fists on the dump truck. I was scared of him, because he was so f'ing pissed off, and I thought he might have a gun.

I've exchanged some heated words with freeper-types before, but this was different, there was something about this guy that made me think he wasn't just your typical cowardly bullying blowhard.

I pretended to be brave and I told him to "get the f' out of my face" and all that, and to "bring it on" if he wasn't going to get out of my face (I'm not kidding, I actually said this to somebody) and pointed out to him that the cops sure wouldn't look kindly on a grown man beating up a woman my size (he was twice as big as me, easily).

When I mentioned "cops" he was thrown off, like maybe he has a record for assault, and then a few others in the group told him they were calling the cops so then he drove off.

But boy, this guy really unnerved me. I do remember telling him that the WMD stuff was a bunch of crap, that it was a bunch of lies. He said I was a crazy ass commie bitch that should be f'ed up the ass, and other choice stuff.

So, I do wonder if he ever thinks back to what he said and how he acted, and if he's changed his mind or feels embarassed. Probably not.

board - might benefit from knowing what the name of the paper is. To boycott it. Advertising, too.

In the UK, I think that might be interpeted by the police as a personal threat.

15. Let me clarify: it was a reader, not a member of the paper
The LTTE was published, the person looked up my e-mail address and sent me the threat.

No evidence that he was a member of the paper's staff.

17. We were told in a staff meeting that we work for Bush and don't criticize
him (fed employees). This was never said once in the previous Admininstration, despite the worst kind of attacks on that President in the work place.

19. That was entirely wrong information, because
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 05:44 PM by Catrina
they got it backwards. Bush works for US, we don't work for him!! Might be a good idea if those on the tax-payers' payroll got some instruction as to who they work for. I most likely would have lost my job, would not have been able to refrain from pointing that out.

I was threatened with death by a Bush supporter on a rightwing board on a regular basis. These people are in the wrong country. Democracy doesn't suit their personality type. I like to tell them what they thought only they could say 'America, love it and its Constitution, or leave it'.

20. I had the yellow bumper sticker
from Impeachbush.org "Bush Lied, Thousands Died" on our truck and some freako pushed a hunk of metal through one of our tires.

It's nice to live in a country where you are guaranteed free speech. Too bad some 'Americans' don't agree with that unless you agree with them. I believe we call those kind of folks 'fascists.' I know my Pops fought against that specifically in WW2. Where did these troglodytes come from?!

24. In my neighborhood,
there is a guy who put up a Bush sign in his yard. This is a blue collar neighborhood that's 80% auto workers. He was the only guy with a Bush/Cheney sign. His neighbors to the left, right and across the street had Kerry/Edwards signs.I was driving by one afternoon and he was outside. He saw my Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers and stomped over to his sign, picked it up and threw it at my car.I must have been the straw that broke the camels back.I still laugh about it.Although,he got the last laugh.x(

Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 07:41 AM by recoveringrepublican
St. Pete for Peace ( www.stpeteforpeace.org) holds protests twice a week. I can only make the Sat. While the positive response has grown immensely, the negative response has become quite intense. I've been assaulted 3 times since August. Two weeks ago our members were hit, by "respectable" people (including women) dressed in designer duds, no doubt walking back to their overpriced SUV. The police continually make up laws and many of them no longer try to hide their rage. The one cop who I respect had to pull a 6-foot 250lb man away from me (I'm a woman 5'5'' 140 lbs). I won't even get into the ice, cups, eggs, etc.

31. We were threatened right after the war started
Our neighbors told us that only traitors did not support the war and that we "should be shot." I took great pleasure in informing Mr. Chickenhawk and his submissive wife that DH is a Gulf War vet, and asked him when he served. (Of course, he didn't.) We then walked out of their home, and did not speak or socialize with them again. Happily, they moved to Las Vegas about two years ago.

A few sideways glances, but that's about it. My "Kerry" bumper sticker was attacked, though. Someone tried to tear it off and shredded the corner - but it's still there. Had my "Gore/Lieberman" on forever after 2000 until it disappeared one day. Leave my car alone, dagnabit!!
