Poll question: Would you go to DC to Protest the 2004 Election Theft?
Would you go to DC to Protest the 2004 Election Theft and/or for election reform?

Yes, a little late BUT maybe not! Vote for your choice - and comment - what groups can we contact to organize this? Any volunteers?

2. I voted for May, but April would be good, too.
It should be a weekend like the war protest in order to get a good turnout.

freezing rain to get the vote out for Kerry--you bet I'd protest the theft! I've been doing it ever since it happened, even while people called me a conspiracy theorist. I knew those thugs stole it!

12. two things get people in the streets here in the USA
a draft
end of abortion rights

the protest in September was probably the biggest thing we've seen outside of those two. so it is encouraging.

I think what we need is more student/university participation. And we need something more than a one-day event; something that builds momentum over time. Like a weekly or monthly protest, that keeps repeating and growing.

20. I'd Rather See A Mid-Term Convention...
Get ALL the issues out and make it not just a beltway thing but take it locally...use it as a springboard to the fall elections and re-taking the House and Senate.

We have too many issues on the front burner here these days...it's dividing resources and creating continued strife as those who want to make election fraud their number one issue don't jive with those who want Iraq as #1 as those who want the SCOTUS choice to be the top issue and so on.

Sadly, after what I saw in August in Washington, I'd have to see a lot better organization and objectives than what happened with the Cindy Sheehan rally.

21. I will WALK there if I have to but, it has to be after the holidays
if you want to have a national impact. In about a week, everyone will be in holiday mode.

Gosh, if we all walked, how beautiful would that be. (We'd need some majorly good shoes. :) )

24. Declare January 6 "DEMOCRACY DAY" -- Every year -- and show up!
Reason 1: Every four years it is that day of the Electoral College. So every four years January 6 would be right on the day to draw attention to that charade. (And it is the anniversary of when the deed was officially done in 2000 and 2004.)

Reason 2: It is around the time when Congress comes back and people are ready to roll with the new year; could be good for lobbying etc.

Reason 3: It is also, in the Christian Calendar (for those who are Christian), January 6 is Epiphany Day when the Magi visited the Christ Child.

Here is the general dictionary definition of the word epiphany:
a. A sudden manifestation of the essence or meaning of something.
b. A comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization.

We need an epiphany (small 'e') in this country about what's going on with our elections!

So, IMHO, January 6. Democracy is worth having its own day.
Yeah, it's cold (but hotels are at their cheapest in D.C. then) and right after the holidays (so don't spend so much, save a little for this).

25. I still think a massive protest the night of the State of the Union
makes perfect sense. Win -win for us.

1 - The Chimp and the rethugs can't run and hide out of town (unlike in Sept they all ran home to their mommies). The party would have to be there to prop a crutch under King Asswipe and his "speechifying" to Congress.

2 - The crowds would shut down major DC streets so the pols (Rethugs & Dems alike) would have to run the gauntlet of hundreds of thousands of people so maybe it would serve as a wake-up call for the "Boy in the Bubble" crowd. They may give wild, enthusiastic applause (on cue, of course) inside for Dimson's State of the Union but meanwhile outside demonstrations will be giving the real state of the union.

3 - The press would be out in droves and millions of people tuning in (compliments of all major news outlets) to hear what nonsense he spouts. Imagine the surprise of people who don't follow politics as closely as they should seeing hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets against the "moran." It is a story the MSM would have to cover.

4 - The "talking airheads" (Buchanan, et al) are all saying that Chimpy will need a speech that will hit it out of the park to get his administration "back on track" for Chimpy's agenda and the poll numbers up in the lead up to the 2006 elections. They are looking, hoping, praying for a State of the Union bounce. Let's don't give it to him.

Other than possible bad weather I don't see a downside.

27. Yes, I would go if at all possible.
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 10:52 PM by livvy
A weekend would work best for me, but if I had to, I would try to figure out a way to go during the week. I really belive that unless there is a big change in the election process, nothing will change for the better. It doesn't matter how popular the candidate is, if the process is not legitimate. We have had two elections stolen. Little has happened in response. Although many here, and others have pushed and worked to wake up "the people", it doesn't seem to be getting through as quickly as it needs to. Our representatives in many states are not responding at all, and some seem ill-informed or disinterested. It seems that a public display may be in order. We have to keep pushing. There is too much at stake.
on edit: any month is fine by me. I hate the cold, but I can dress warm.
