Either you are for torture or against it.
I was reading my local newspaper, today, and it talked about hiding prisoners in other countries and torturing them. I knew about this a long time ago. It is a shame the people in this country are not required to read DU every single day. But I am going off topic.

I thought about this and just how hypocritical it is. One of the reasons given, for invading Iraq, is that Saddam was torturing his people. Everyone calls him a mad man and I agree. (that does not mean I think the occupation is legal)

How can we invade a country for their use of torture and then turn around and do the exact same thing? You can not state torture is fine in some instances and not in others. You either have to say that it is never fine - in which case I never want to hear them talk about invading because of the treatment of the citizens of Iraq. OR, you say torture is never OK and in that case you must hold the US government responsible.

We have laws for a reason. Certain people made laws and signed treaties saying we would not participate in torture. Our government must be better than to say they do not like a law and so they will just take steps to get around it. That is just plain wrong. If any of us tried to work around a law we would be held responsible. The fact that our government does this makes me sick. They must be stopped.
