That's what poll after poll shows.

The Repukes *have* to know that. I'm sure Senator Reid knows that.

Wonder what the moderate Repukes are thinking--are they mulling this over?

1. And yet, we're in a war and Roe may well be overturned.
Go figure. So much for representative democracy.

4. And sentiment is starting to and will continue to turn against the Repukes
and I'm wondering if the R's are figuring that out yet?

2. I'm puzzled why so many Dems act like this is a losing issue for us

When study after study has shown that a majority of Americans support a woman's right to choose.

10. It's not cut & dry
Some people support parental notification. Others support "partial birth" bans. Others support rape, incest, health or life only. Pure choice is not a clear majority view.

Which is why Howard is right to change it to a right to privacy issue. That is actually where most people are at, oppose personally but don't want to make the decision for others. Like he said, they don't understand that's what pro-choice means so we need to change the way we talk about it. Although I've thought that since the first time I saw "Child Not A Choice" bumper stickers 20 years ago.

11. You're right, but
The fact is most Americans do not support an outright ban on a woman's access to abortion.

That's what the far right wants. That's what we need to remind the public about.

3. But I'll be willing to bet that when the first Alito-related poll
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 11:16 PM by deadparrot
comes out in a couple of days, a majority (or at least a plurality) of Americans will want him confirmed.

6. The majority of people voted against "gay marriage"
or something stupid like that.

Now they'll wake up and figure out Iraq is a mess and Roe's overturned.

Finally, when it's too late, they'll be pissed.

8. They may hold those views, but they don't motivate their votes.
That's a big problem for Democrats. People support almost everything we stand for except for the wedges that do get them to vote.

Just about everyone is "for the environment", but a lot of them vote Repug time after time. So the environment isn't really a priority for them. It's simply not that big an issue to them.

Just about everyone wants Roe to be retained. Even so, a lot of them still vote Repug time and again. The people who want Roe defeated will vote Repug ALWAYS on this issue alone.

The Repugs aren't worried about these issues (war, Roe) in the least. Roe just isn't a threat to them at all. The war can be spun and a big troop reduction before the elections will take that off the table. What they are worried about is energy prices. What effects voter's pocketbooks directly motivates their votes. If energy prices stay high the Repugs are in big trouble in 2006.
