I'm slightly behind on reading some of the monthly publication I receive because of reading Crude Politics among other books, work etc.
Last night, I decided to thumb through the couple of months of National Geographics I haven't yet read. The September issue has a fairly detailed article about 21st century slave trade, it is truly a dismal story. What El Schmucko failed to reveal in his useless UN speech is that, many of our allies are cited on a list of countries known to have the trafficking of more than one hundred human beings in the last year. This would be a state department list and yep, the good ol' US is on it, along with Israel, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey, Kuwait, well you get the picture! It is estimated that worldwide approximately 27 million people are bought and sold.
Guess who didn't join in this dubious distinction? Curiously enough Iraq and Syria didn't but I'd be willing to bet Iraq makes the list next year.
Sorry no link but you can usually find back issues of NG in your library or try them on-line.
Also worth checking out is this months NG it has wonderful pictures of ancient sites within Iraq.
