Poll question: Do you like or dislike the term "Fitzmas"
I've seen many posts about the joy of the coming "Fitzmas" and then a few posts saying that the term is inappropriate. What do you think?

And it's gotten no better since then.

Enough already!

4. I voted I like it. Wasn't sure if I did at first, but it IS stupid
in that Adam Sandler sort of way...and I like Adam Sandler.

Furthermore, to me surprise I found myself singing...
"It's beginning to look alot like Fitzmas..." as I readied for work this morning. It made my wife roll here eyes at me.

I don't like tossing "-gate" on anything that's scandal-related, either.

In this case, though, as I'm sure we all know, this is serious stuff. This is an investigation that may (will / could / should / damn-well-better) bring down a presidency. I know we hate this administration - I certainly do. I also hate that they've sullied the reputation of the country and the executive and legislative branches.

So, while I'm happy about the strong belief that the long night may be coming to a close soon, I'm not exactly gleeful about how and why, nor that it had to get quite so damned dark to begin with.

Edit: Oh, and let's not forget that not everyone breaks into smiles when they hear Christmas songs... Hated 'em as a kid; hate 'em as an adult. I'd much prefer to keep this secular, please. 1/2-a-:-)

6. It's a wonderful meme.
Let the neocons suffer with what they have created. Accountability is coming. It's time to celebrate in the streets.

9. I look at it as just a bit of fun to relieve the anxiety
It's not intended to completely summarize the Plame Affair and take the place of intelligent debate.

But being the great skeptic that I am, I'm still not convinced that Fitzgerald will return indictments. I'll joyously believe it when I see it. And Fitzmas will look pretty bleak in the case where nothing happens and all of this build-up will lead to a big let down.

19. My feelings exactly....
With the 'Fitzmas/Xmas" connotation- a feelygood holiday takes away from the deadly serious situation in DC and our nation at large.

And in the analogy, we are the duped children. Don't like it one bit.

23. These offenses are light compared to the major
one of lying about a war and WMD's. The day that I see people paying for those lies, is the day, I just might take some pleasure in seeing it done. These little offenses are just the start, there will be more to come, including the lies put before congress.....

26. It's cute. Like a baby. Until the diaper is full.
A little restraint would go a long way, like with the Fred Rogersisms, the Desi Arnazisms, truth-to-power and take-back-the-streets and "Traitor!" and the hundred other cliches we use around here like they were stand-alone phrases.

It's not just my grammar-nazi priggishness that motivates me to complain; cliches suck the meaning and intensity out of what the writer is trying to say. There was a whole passage in Brave New World about the ability of cliches and slogans to destroy the effectiveness of langauge and rhetoric.

Obviously, this isn't a personal slam to anyone. If we would be powerful communicators, we have to learn how to use every joule of power we can coax out of our words.

Did you just hear that? It's the crackling sound that the sparks of our convictions make. Well, give it voice, and let it out, peals of thunder, to roll across this republic of ours, and to let the world know that America won't be turned into a fungible commodity by the parasites that have infested its guts, muscles, and Washington, DC.

Yep, you might be able to say it better. You probably CAN say it better. So, say it better.

--p!
But what do I know? I'm an idiot.
And let that be a lesson to the idiots!

28. Don't like and inappropriate, IMO
First, it's not Fitzgerald that's giving indictments but the GJ. Second, by making a charicature in such a way it gives ammunition to the publicons. Partisans will gladly point out 'the Left is celebrating like they just won the lottery' or 'Fitzgerald has been influenced by the Liberals'. Either is not a badge we want to wear.

I'd much rather have a term coined that highlights the criminals and deep stench of corruption in the administration rather than an ethical prosecutor.

Now I fucking hate it because some are using it to poke in people's eyes for fun - knowing that a good third of the people here find it childish and offensive.
