The Missouri Republican also returned a $1,000 contribution that Abramoff's former law firm made to his re-election campaign earlier this year. The disclosure was made in Talent's most recent campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Abramoff, a high-powered Republican lobbyist and fund-raiser, has pleaded innocent to a six-count federal fraud and conspiracy indictment stemming from his role in the 2000 purchase of a fleet of gambling boats in Florida.
Talent spokesman Rich Chrismer said the evidence against Abramoff was enough for the senator to return the money. snip
Democrats have called on Talent to return a $5,000 contribution he received from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Tex., also recently indicted on unrelated charges. But Talent has declined so far.
