I don't think he's reached Davis depths yet, his approval is around 33% at last check.

6. odd situation in Indiana
O'Bannon had grown unpopular, was viewed as ineffective - but mostly for issues that the statehouse drug their collective heels on. But in his unanticipated death, his image was rehabilitated as people looked at him across his career rather than just at this moment in time. Meanwhile the Lt. Governor (now Governor), was seen by the business community as a very stablizing force (was a very well respected Mayor in South Bend.), had announced that he would NOT run for governor - and everyone was clammoring for him to run - to no avail.

Now he is Governor. Mitch Daniels left DC to run as Bush's guy in Indiana. Two dems are running but neither picking up any traction.

Since Governor Kernon took office the question has resurfaced... will he reconsider? Will he run? Last week his wife reportedly asked him to reconsider and give some time thinking about a definitive yes or no (from a previous "no" on the question). And he has complied.

That said - we have a late Governor who is suddenly viewed more postiively, and a sitting governor who has the states' good will behind him. The landscape here has drastically changed.

A month and a half ago - to this question (popularity ala Davis), I would have said that O'Bannon's popularity was probably in that range.

7. Gary Locke in Washington
I recall he was polling somewhere in the low- to mid-30s before he said he wouldn't seek reelection.

9. I'd guess most with a D by their name...
And...There's 26 states with Repigs for Governors. I'm sure a few are new hires from the last election. But..How many of those states are in financial straits with Repigs at the helm of Governor??

I'd guess most all. But Davis had to go for the good of California and the Nation. Geezzz what crap...
