If libby/rove did nothing wrong, why did they lie?

I know the wingnuts are going to claim that Libby and Rove are getting indicted on a mere technicality so my question is this.

If they did nothing wrong by revealing Plame's name, then why did they lie about it?

What would their explanation be?

4. For them, lying is a way of life. My feeling is that they were so sure of

their power and control of the situation that nothing they did could come back to haunt them. They were wrong. It is as much of a shock to them that they have vulnerabilities as it is that they will be indited.

Funnily enough, from what I've been able to figure out, they ALL seem to have forgotten about any and all conversations where Valerie Plame's name was mentioned that occured BEFORE her husbands article came out - until they were reminded.
