Grassroads GOP Wisdom Showcased on C-SPAN this morning.

Washington Journal is asking Republicans (ONLY Repubs) to call in and say whether they think the party should move more toward the center on social issues.

Of course there have been strange rants about affirmative action discriminating against white men and a strange and scary rant by a woman who wants the GOP to move much farther right. This from a fellow in Alto, Texas, was so priceless I was glad I have TiVo so I could transcribe it for all of you to enjoy.

"The thing that is separating the Republican Party from the Democrat (sic) Party, and the thing that got Arnold Schwarzenegger elected in California is the difference between honesty, morality, what's wrong and what's right, and, uh, the doggone, uh, promiscuous way that the Democrat (sic) Party is running itself."

Guess he thinks Arnold's just a good old boy who flirts a bit. . . :eyes:

1. That one woman scared me
On the other hand, there were one or two who said they were pretty disgusted with the party at this point and were thinking of switching to Independent next year.

Pedro going through the article about Michael Moore trying to deliver a copy of his new book to the pResident ("Someone could read it to him," he said) right in the middle of the discussion was great.

6. She was so scary that I didn't want to replay that part!

I couldn't remember anything specific that she said but I didn't want to listen again to transcribe it. The hate coming from her was palpable.

2. The Squeeky Oil Gets The Grease
For the past 3 years the right wing (some will say since the Gnewt Gingrich days) has hijacked the Repugnican party and there are a lot of Republicans who played go along-get along that aren't quite as comfy now.

The concept of the "big tent" is the antithesis of this party's fundamantals, it's a matter of time for it to splinter, and having a crappy economy and a never-ending war could do the trick

3. I know a lot of *true conservatives* who have just about had it!
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 07:30 AM by Padraig18
I live in a VERY Republican area, so I know a lot of Repukes AND *Republicans*. I don't believe that this is an artificial distinction these days, because *many* very conservative R's are becoming disenchanted with the direction the party has taken under *. They are apalled at the deficit, disgusted by the lies, etc., and are *seriously* considering voting for someone other than *.

There is already an open civil war between the RW's and what I call the "Chamber of Commerce" R's in Illinois, and I would not be a bit surprised to find out that it's happening elsewhere.

4. The one that scared me the most

That was a CLASSIC!!!

5. I'm Seeing The Same Thing, Too
There's a lot of grumbling here in mostly Republican Pleasant Valley Sunday suburbia.

8. I almost fell over on the big tent thing but now I see why GOP states that
They say make laws so no one will do as they do not like and we say make no laws and you can do as you like and so can I.They see that as taken away their rights to have you do as they wish. Is that double speek?

9. A Lot Are Pissed About The Tax Breaks
The rumbling around my "hood" has been how little people got back from the Bushita bribes.

Remember, the only people who got the max back, paid the max in...you got less in the lower brackets, and even less when you include deductions. This meant people maybe got a few hundred bucks back, not the thousands this regime's benefactors got. And they're not happy campers.

Not only can't they see how this will create jobs, this is money that is spent on just keeping pace with rising local taxes and energy costs. Are we the only ones seeing/feeling this??

The "Raygun Economy"/Clinton Recession crap isn't playing well as people remember having better jobs and more money prior to this regimes selection.

They may not jump to a Democrat, but these people may just stay home next year...and that's not a bad thing, either.
