Freeps Re: Miers "The GOP is losing the war"

One thing that is being overlooked by a lot of people is that several other candidates were asked to serve, but DECLINED because of the literal CRUCIBLE they would be put through in the Committee hearings, media scrutiny, etc.

First, it is only a rumor that "more qualified" candidtates dropped out. The rumor is useful to advance Ms. Miers, as she is touted as "the best that the President can get throught this Senate."

If that's the case, Ms. Miers is the best female Justice we can get - EVER - unless the Senate process is changed. Ponder that for a minute. Based on that alone, I think the "all the more qualified possibilities dropped out" story indicates a problem with the short list the President used; and does not reflect the deep pool of traditionalist female candidates.

But on to the bigger issue. Why tolerate the poisoned confirmation atmosphere created by the DEMs? They need to be called out for their despicable behavior. In my opinion, the GOP lacks the intelligence to compose a compelling argument, the moral conviction, or both, and therefore it does not make any progess against the DEMs.

The GOP is losing the war.

2. Talk about delusional!!!!
Losing the war? The GOP controls the executive and both houses of Congress and they can't get *'s sweetheart pick through? Crap! The opposition they are getting is from within their own ranks. Losers.

3. Let me say a word about "living constitution" justices
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 04:18 AM by DaveColorado
If FDR, Truman, and Eisenhower had not appointed "living constitution" justices to the court such as William O Douglas and Earl Warren, I would have gone to a segregated school.

That's how important the Supreme Court is to protecting the rights of all Americans.

Janice Rogers Brown and Clarence Thomas would have been barred at the door when they tried to go to law school.

4. Agreed.
It is truly amazing that after all the power and gloring mongering the Republican party did, the overreach of their agenda is being corrected from within their party and not by the Dems.

We sure do need to have that one branch of government--the Judicial--remain independent as long as the rest of government is being strangled by these ideologues.

5. An independant judiciary is the one thing
that still separates us from Putin's Russia or any other authoritarian government.

8. Really, what's he bitching about the "Dems" for?
It's his OWN damned party that is hacking her apart, the Democrats have remained relatively quiet other than wanting more information about her Constitutional theory.
I realize that the freeps live in an alternate universe but this is off the hook even by their "standards". :eyes:

6. This freeper is deranged in so many ways.
What is this fixation on "females"? I thought objective was
to find a qualified candidate, not just anyone of a certain
race or gender.

Change the confirmation process? This is still a democracy.
The GOP controls the Senate without a serious threat of a
Democratic filibuster. What does he want, a rubber stamp
Senate ready to confirm an Emperor's horse nomination?

If Bush can't get his fellow conservative Republicans
to fall into line on this, take a closer look a the nominee.
Don't whine about the Democrats.

11. It's that darn criminalization of politics !
Maybe if they threw the crooks out of the GOP,
then we can all start making some progress

Instead the GOP is sending the whole country down the
vortex of doom with their irresponsible governance,
unethical behavior, rampant cronyism and criminal actions.

It's time to clean house and throw the bums out !!!!
