Northwest Airlines to ANNUL all union contracts
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 09:14 PM by Bluebear
October 31, 2005 ST. PAUL, Minnesota—Claiming that they are on the “brink of extinction,” the Northwest Airlines bosses filed a motion in bankruptcy court October 12 to void all its contracts with labor unions at the company. In addition to laying off thousands, Northwest seeks court sanction for slashing wages and gutting pension plans.

“Time has run out,” Northwest warned in its request to Judge Allan Gropper to impose a deadline on the unions to reach an agreement with management, or face an “orderly liquidation” that would result in the termination of the remaining 35,000 workers still employed.

Will Judge Gropper approve this gutting of pension plans and voiding contracts for the working man and woman?

1. I'm a little low on cash
I'd like to void my contracts with my credit card company and my mortgage company. Who do I call?

8. The old saying is more than ever true.
If you owe the bank a million dollars you can't sleep well at night.

If you owe the bank 100 million dollars the banker doesn't sleep well at night

3. northwest should go out of business....the jobs will be lost but
the dirt bag management and money grubbing sharholders will also feel the pain.

the airline workers can get jobs with new airlines that arise out of the wreckage of the old crashed and burned ones because people are STILL going to fly and they need workers NOT management to get them places safely and on time. Not much future for MANAGEMENT who run an airline out of existence (unless yer george w bush who will be bailed out time and again by poppy)_.

the airline industry is long over due for major changes and trying to save the dying geese is just a waste of time.

6. The dirt bag management already cashed out their shares
And the CEO has set up three pension plans unrelated to the pension fund of the rank and file. one of those pensions alone is guaranteed at $947,000 a year. USA! USA!

9. Easy to say if it's not YOUR job.
Why would you want me to lose mine?

4. The judge assigned to this case, Allan Gropper, is a Clinton appointee.
He also used to work for the New York legal aid society. I've heard he is a good, fair judge.

7. sad , pitiful and sad...its what happened under reagan as well...
rethugs destroy airline unions..and if i say so myself..i blame alot of airline people for this themselves..because i know my airline most voted for *even though us old timers warned them ..we were not listened to...in fact we were laughed at in our faces when we warned about the rethuglicans...but the saying is ..you can take a horse to water but you can not make it drink...well..shaking head..sad...

maybe next time they will listen..to us old timers!!

10. Ah, The Militant. I used to subscribe to that.
I think it has gone downhill recently, but this is still interesting news.

The World Socialist Website, based in Michigan, has done a pretty good job of reporting on NW Airlines related incidents.

12. How Do I say This Politely?
Screw you and the planes you rode in on. If Northwest is successful in this immoral venture, I will walk wherever I have to go rather than risk putting any profit into the hands of their incompetent management (And that's not easy since I fly out of one of their main hubs). If they win on this, worker's everywhere are hosed!
