3. I inclined to believe that "that place".........
doesn't exist anymore. At least not in any form that people would recognize. That's an ungodly amount of rain, a year's worth in most places in one 24 hour period. YIKES! :wow:
very few lives lost. No doubt Cozumel and Cancun were battered for an unbelievable length of time but remember Cancun survived Gilbert -Cat5 with 885 pressure.
Indigenous people are survivors or they'd all be dead already given their experiences these past 500 years. I watched the dome house in Western Florida and had a laugh. The WaiWai and other indigenous groups have been building circular homes for centuries. They have the most experience with hurricanes. They will need help but they will survive.
must be some sort of record. I can tell you that we had more rain in Jamaica in five days from the early stages of Wilma than I can rememeber in at least 30 years. I'll see if I find a figure published anywhere.
13. Jamaica's had it bad this year, along with the rest of the Caribbean.
It's almost ridiculous when you look over the whole season....all the records, extremes, deaths. And the sad thing is, this could be a trend. It may just get worse over the years.
Wilma was pretty similar to Gilbert but she formed south west of us and we did not get a hurricane hit. Alpha looks like it his heading for DR and Haiti so we should escape from another direct hit. We've had an awful lot of rain though but all hurricanes barely brushed us this year. As weary as we all are, it could have been a lot worse. The US mainland has taken most of the hits this year.
