Caller to C-SPAN says anti-Earle ads running almost 24/7....
The machine in Texas seems to be hot on the trail of Mr. Ronnie Earle. The caller said that ads were running against him, almost 24/7, and radio and TV talking heads are attacking him with their allotted editorial comments. Anybody from Texas that can verify this?

2. I have never, ever heard of anyone or group
spamming the community to taint a jury poole. If it true, folks in Texas need to call the stations taking the payola for the ads.

4. So what? Is this supposed to sway the judge or jury?
I hope Texans are a little more savvy than that.

10. It's for Texans in red counties
And MOST of the 254 counties in Texas are bright red.

6. Yes, I just saw the attack dog ad for the 100th time
They started out on the FOX network, but now it's everywhere. It's hard to not see it in Central Texas.

Mallory Factor is writing a lot of checks...

7. has anyone down there
asked where the money to run these ads is coming from?

I would imagine it's claimed to be from a window-dressing front "citizen group" -- but where are they getting the money?

12. The ads are being paid for by
a Texas businessman named Mallory Factor, chairman of the Free Enterprise Fund. He was a major fundraiser for George W. Bush.

14. got another question
in any other big case - there have been gag orders issued to prevent "poisoning" of the jury pool

I realize such gag orders are usually placed on the those directly involved with the case - but couldn't one be "extended" to include Factor and others like him? I know that such an attempt would bring howls of "free speech" infringement - but still running these kinds of ads seem like a pretty blatent attempt to taint a jury pool

meanwhile - that these ads are occuring doesn't surprise me -- it's typical repug tactics -- if you can't defend your position you smear your opponent. You only have to look at the Treasongate scandal for the most current example.

9. The Sliming Is Working
I had the chance to listen to some fine Big D hate radio the past couple days...KRLD, WBAP, KSKY...and sure enough, not only are those ads on the air 24/7, the hosts and callers are amplifying them in the echo chamber.

The meme is already assumed that Earle's prosecution is partisan on the edge of treason. He's under constant attack and ridiculed for the Kay Bailey Hutchinson case. The hosts and callers all assume as fact that Earle has no case and is just doing this at the bidding of the DNC, Moveon, George Soros, Michael Moore and Cock Robin.

13. This shouldn't be allowed
and only goes to amplify what is wrong.
An obvious tainting of a jury pool?
This makes me sick because it is the epitome of what is wrong with our country right now as we speak.

15. I woke up to an anti-Earle add yesterday
As I woke up yesterday morning to get ready for work, I turned on my t.v. and saw an anti-Earle add.

It was full of the usual Republican-talking points about him (regarding Kay Bailey Hutchison, etc). And it ended with "Call Ronnie Earle and tell him it's not a crime to be a conservative."

17. couldn't that be viewed as tainting the jury pool? is it just in the
county where the trial would be right now or is it running through the entire state?

19. Let the prosecutor say the jury pool is tainted and move the trial
We could handle the Delay trial here in MA!!

We'd be happy to

probably not allowed though, but I can dream
