CHILLING IF TRUE: Rumsfeld To Profit From Avian Flu Hoax
Last week, the avian flu hoax was used to justify the immediate purchase of 80 million doses of Tamiflu, a worthless drug that in no way shape or form treats the avian flu. 20 million doses of this worthless drug at a price of $100 per dose, comes to a staggering $2 billion.

We are being told that Roche manufactures Tamiflu, but if you dig further you will find that a drug was actually developed by a company called Gilead. Ahh, The Plot Thickens... If you read the link below from Gilead, you'll discover Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was made the chairman of Gilead in 1997..

Finally, the pieces of the puzzle start to add up. Last week, President Bush sought to instill panic in this country by telling us a minimum of 200,000 people will die from the avian flu pandemic but it could be as bad as 2 million deaths in this country alone.

This hoax is then used to justify the immediate purchase of 80 million doses of Tamiflu, a worthless drug that in no way shape or form treats the avian flu, but only decreases the amount of days one is sick and can actually contribute to the virus having more lethal mutations.

11. It's never enough
It was ever enough, the Spanish wouldn't have bankrolled Columbus. The Romans wold not have built an empire, and then watched it fall. Neither would the Egyptians. Or the Brits. Or the Americans. Or the Russians. Or the Germans. Or the Japanese. Or the Chinese.

Like everything else, it goes both ways. The attitude of "it's never enough" has brought us good things, as well as bad. But either way, it'll never be enough.

But just knowing Rummy would be somehow profiting makes me think I'd rather die before I'd let him or any of them "profit" on a purchase I'd make....

Personally, I've been doing research on natural alternatives to building up my immune system and I've discovered a few things I'm going to be doing as alternatives to buying Tamiflu. One is just good clean living and being in a good state of mind mentally. Yoga, organic food when possible, plenty of sleep, regular chiropractic adjustments, vitamin supplements and something called "Emerald Energy" that I get from the local Pine Street Clinic in San Anselmo,CA where they have a Chinese Herbalist. Its a combination of various chinese herbs and known things like Astragulus, spirulina etc. I also was inquiring recently about alternatives for boosting the immune system to "Tamiflu" and Chinese Star Anise was being suggested. Don't have the definitive info on it, but like I said, I'll try all these things before I give money to the drug manufacturers and the likes of Rumsfeld.

PS: I just googled and found that the Pine Street Clinic sells online (I buy from them at the clinic)...It's a wonderful place about 10 mins from my house and they have amazing practioners there in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. When I was pregnant and needed to go into labor, I went in and they got my labor going with Acupuncture to help me avoid getting induced medically....When I feel a cold coming on, I take this Emerald Energy Defense Formula....so far, I've successfully dodged being sick 3 years in a row other than the usual sniffles etc. Then again, maybe its because I breast feed still, but I'm willing to go with this....http://shopping.netsuite.com/emeraldenergy

35. Avian Flu is not a hoax
Though there is no vaccine as yet, the anti viral drug Tamiflu can and does save lives. Of course we all know Rumsfelds background with drug manufacturers and he probably will make a fine profit.
.
But to shelve this serious problem and call it a hoax is dangerous.
.
We've all been lied to so many times it's hard to know truth any more. This is not one of those cases.
.
Nevertheless we are all in grave danger owing to the fact that HHS assistant to Secretary Leavitt, Stuart Simonson who is in charge of this problem is yet another inept politically appointed special interest crony of BushCo, as was FEMA's Brown and we all know what happened there. Who by the way was kept on the payroll for one month to gather docs and help ...ha...investigate Katrina pit falls. And by the way has now received yet another 30 days extention.
.
Europe is a year ahead of the US when it comes to the avian flu, many countries ordered Tamiflu early on, the big push you're reading about is nothing more than rhetoric they are covering their A%^es again, too little too late.
.
Roche is the only company that manufactures Tamiflu thus far and orders are backed up.
.
At first Roche who holds the patent refused to allow other companies to manufacture it. That has changed I understand but Roache.....oops sorry Roche will maintain part of the profits.
.
The US has said it will subsidize building a new plan here in the US for Roche but it will not be completed for a year.
.
Sooo as we wait in the "superdome" of life and they play games with our lives we must remember as we learned that hard lesson during Katrina YOU ARE YOUR FIRST RESPONDER.

ut that's where the various flu strains usually originate- and until it turns into something bad over there, it's not too likely to get bad over here.
i pretty much always keep a month or so worth of food in the house- if/when a dangerously mutated form does show up, we're going on lock-down.

28. Sorry, but I didn't make myself clear...
I meant they moved fast on ordering the Tamiflu, once they found out there was a chance for profit ("Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was made the chairman of Gilead in 1997..") for one of their friends. In the event the Tamiflu really isn't of much help, they needed to get that order in before much discussion could take away the opportunity.

30. Ok let me explain this to you
Tamiflu's Patent is OWNED by Roche Labs, a Swiss company...

No they did not move fast on this, they have been resisting doing anything of what needs to be done.. hell they are way behind the power curve in the CDC coming out with an action plan

Yes this is tin foil, tight one by the way, and the Bird Flu is POTENTIALLY a serious risk... as the WHO has been saying since they started noticing things mutating in SE Asia.

But if you choose to beleive that the WHO is in their back pocket, feel free. If yuo choose to believe they are donig this for money, feel free, if you choose to believe this is a hoax, feel free.

What Happened to Common Sense?

The avian flu epidemic hoax reminds me just how uncommon "common sense" is. Folks where is the sound basic science here? How do they make the giant leap of faith that 60 deaths will translate to 2 million or even 200,00 deaths in the US from a virus that does NOT readily spread from birds to humans or humans to humans?

Most of the people who acquired this infection were bird handlers who were in continuous contact with these sick birds. Does anyone in their right mind envision similar circumstances in the US?

Research like this would typically be thrown in the trash if it did not strongly support some ulterior purpose.

What might the purpose of these scare tactics be you ask?

Well how about the US purchasing huge quantities of antiviral drugs and an increase in flu vaccine production along with purchasing 20 million doses of the highly questionably effective Tamiflu. Guess how much one treatment of Tamiflu costs? Give yourself a slap on the back if you guessed $100.

His solution?

Review the simple lifestyle measures I outlined earlier this year that will serve to boost your immune system to not only address any form of the flu but also other infectious illness like the cold. When you have a healthy lifestyle and follow basic steps of the Total Health program, for the most part you just don't get sick.

This is the routine surprised comment that most patients tell me after they have been on the program. The Total Health program works for me, most of my patients and can work for you. Just give it a try and let's stop enriching the drug companies for toxic alternatives that don't solve the problem.

For more information about the avian flu you can obtain the Flu Tele Clinic I did last week with Dr. Tenpenny.

Does that sound like good medical advice to you?

16. That's fish oil, not snake oil!
He tells of the flu vaccine's "paradoxical effects" and then offers no evidence to back it up. Nonsense.

Flu Vaccine's Paradoxical Effects

For most people, the flu shot does not prevent illness, but actually does the polar opposite--it weakens your immune system and makes you more predisposed to the illness.
-snip-

Then he offers basic commonsense advice to avoid getting the flu in lieu of a flu shot.

So How Can You Strengthen Your Immune System And Prevent The Flu?

A key factor to preventing the flu is to start focusing on eating properly. That means avoiding:

Fast foods
Sugars
Grains
Trans-fats
Additionally you can increase the healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 fats found in fish and cod liver oil: Those of you who read the newsletter regularly know I'm a fan of the Carlson's brand of fish oil and cod liver oil, as I have seen clear and often substantial improvements in my patients who use it. Plus, Carlson's fish and cod liver oil is one of the few brands that put the extra vitamin E in it for you straight from the get-go, so you don't have to take extra vitamin E if you don't want to.

You can find Carlson's fish or cod liver oil at your local health food store, or, for your convenience, on my Recommended Products page section.

Also, be sure to increase the good carbohydrates like those in vegetables, and the healthy proteins like those in clean, naturally raised meats (i.e., NOT the kind you typically find in grocery stores). That means learn your metabolic type as soon as possible so you know what proportion of fats, carbs and proteins are ideal to build your immune system.

Additionally, if you are to successfully prevent the flu, it is also important to:

Exercise regularly,
Get enough sleep,
Address stressors,
Wash your hands regularly.

Duh. Of course we need to get enough sleep and wash our hands to decrease the likelihood of becoming infected with whatever is going around at any given time. But to imply that people including the elderly should not get a flu vaccine is inexcusably dangerous and irresponsible.

Worldwide there are 1 million reported deaths every year from the regular flu. Get your flu shot.

As for the avian flu being a hoax, I doubt that the families of the deceased would agree. If it does make the genetic jump enabling it to transmit human-to-human-to-human, we damn well better have antivirals like Tamiflu to lessen the severity of the disease.

20. LOL!!! Thanks, Lady Lib!
This idiot needs to be exposed whenever he rears his scaly head.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this unethical little hemorrhoid, is that he spreads lies about the legitimate medical professionals who are trying to get a handle on this in order to sell his products.

People better wake the hell up and start looking at the agendas of the rumour mongers and the deniers.

Is it morally acceptable for this loser to kill people to make a buck because he's not a politician?

Whatever happened to critical thinking?

34. Ok, call me Tin-foil Sparkles, but I swear...
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 01:32 AM by TwoSparkles
this frickin administration may be deliberately trying to dissuade liberals--and people who hate this administration--from protecting themselves against bird flu.

First, Bush conjures up this inane, upsetting solution to bird flu--using the military to enforce quarantines. The solution is laughable and most medical experts were guffawing at Bush's suggestion. Bush has NEVER cared about bird flu or the people in this country who can't afford Tamiflu, or those who won't have access because there isn't enough drug. Bird flu is an old problem. He has NEVER cared. Why would he so openly suggest a solution that would frighten people and incite liberals????

Why? Because he's trying to play us. He's deliberately intertwining bird flu with his fascist ideas--in an attempt to persuade liberals that bird flu is a hoax.

Now, we have this information about Rumsfeld. I seriously doubt this is true. It feels coordinated and too well timed.

If it were true, then why has this administration dragged its feet on dealing with bird flu and increasing production of Tamiflu? They've been doing just the opposite--a lot of foot dragging. This administration doesn't cower when there's a corporate conflict of interest. Look at Halliburton. They'll make money for themselves out in the open--by hiring Halliburton for every job they can muster. So...if Rumsfeld really has a stake in Tamiflu--why hasn't the US been exploiting bird flu OR only stockpiling enough to treat 3 percent of the population? The answer is----they've never cared about bird flu because they don't give a crap about anyone who isn't rich enough to survive--AND--the story about Rumsfeld is probably false.

Bird flu is real. It may not become a pandemic. However, the conditions are ripe for human-human transition to happen. It's a real threat. Read the results of the scientists who dug up the 1918 flu victim and studied the molecular structure of that flu and compared it with bird flu. They're VERY similar and most medical experts agree that both flus will mutate in a similar fashion. The 1918 flu mutated from bird-->human and then jumped from human--human.

Many epidemiologists, virologists and independent medical experts have been discussing bird flu from a purely scientific (not political) perspective for years. Read their research. Listen to what the World Health Organization has to say.

For God's sakes, don't base your opinion of bird flu on the propaganda this administration catapults at us!

I believe we're being played. I suggest that everyone do what true liberals and progressives do---think for yourselves and do your own research.

38. True BushCo shoots first asks questions later
The first thought that came to this misadministrations mind addressing the possible avian flu pandemic was Martial law.....quarantine.....with little effort towards supplying Tamiflu to citizens.
.
Same thing with Katrina when they finally sent aid in it was a caravan of military vehicles and soldiers all carrying AK47s.
.
It's the John Wayne mentality.
.
When I heard on Frontline last month from HHS secretary Leavitt another crony appointee that they had ordered 2.5 million doses I was shocked. The interviewer said but there are 350 million people...blah blah blah.
.
We can be sure that those at the top will be covered.

40. here's a good BIRD FLU source from a fellow DU'er
The Bird Flu and You: Part 2, Why We Worry
http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/1818

Most people wonder why we are so excited about this particular ‘bug’. It is a fair question since there are so damn many bugs that, if we permitted ourselves to dwell upon them, we could easily go crazy just contemplating the unseen threat posed by all of them. And truthfully, it doesn’t really pay to worry all the time about them, because whatever it is we worry about, it seems to usually fade away and something else pops up and bites us.
However, let me try to flip your world view a bit. Most of us grew up during an era that may prove to be an historic anomaly—a mere quirk in time. You see, we are children of the 20th century. Our science advanced so quickly during that period that we thought we had won the evolutionary competition against microscopic pathogens. Look at us! We found antibiotics. We developed vaccines. We eradicated smallpox. We conquered polio. If we got sick, we merely went to our doctor and got a pill. Then came AIDS.

AIDS forced us to reexamine our victories and the world view those victories gave us. Had we perhaps been guilty of hubris? Other new ‘emerging’ diseases and growing resistance to antibiotics quickly answered the question for us: Yes, we had. We have wonderful brains. The bugs, however, have a much more formidable evolutionary history than we do.

Congress set to eliminate liability for vaccine injuries (Action alert!)

News Update from Citizens for Legitimate Government
20 October 2005
http://www.legitgov.org/index.html#breaking_news

Congress Set to Pass Law Eliminating Liability For Vaccine Injuries 19 Oct 2005 The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is calling the "Biodefense and Pandemic Vaccine and Drug Development Act of 2005" (S. 1873), which passed out of the U.S. Senate HELP Committee one day after it was introduced "a drug company stockholder's dream and a consumer's worst nightmare." ...The bill establishes the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency (BARDA), as the single point of authority within the government for the advanced research and development of drugs and vaccines in response to bioterrorism and natural disease outbreaks such as the flu. BARDA will operate in secret, exempt from the Freedom of Information Act and the Federal Advisory Committee Act, insuring that no evidence of injuries or deaths caused by drugs and vaccines labeled as "countermeasures" will become public.

Urgent CLG Action!! By Pamela "Here is the list of politicians pushing for us to face forced vaccines and forced drugging with untested/experimental drugs and vaccines giving freedom from liability to drug companies. Contact them ALL. Keep this list of these traitors for your voting records. They ALL need to go! This bill is called 'The Biodefense and Pandemic Vaccine and Drug Development Act of 2005.' You will find the wording under Senate Bill 1873 (S. 1873)." http://www.legitgov.org/action_biodefense_pandemic_vacc...
