Is The Elephant In The Room That * Ordered The Plame Smear?
Think about it. All of these sycophants do his bidding. * is a smarmy, vengeful git. Seems to me that * himself instigated the whole thing. There's NO WAY Cheney or Rove or anyone else would have taken this up on their own. There's, of course, a chance that they're all as small and pathetic as *, but, c'mon! You don't hear the rest of them saying things like "who cares what you think."

* just asked everyone else in bushco to give him plausible deniability on instigating the smear. That's why he was so pissed at Rove's "ham handed" handling of the thing. That's why he's been at war with Cheney for so long. That's why he's been passing over certain people for promotions etc and giving them to his closest buds (Sleaza) and a bunch of unknowns (Roberts, Miers). His petulant little mind got squeezed by Wilson and he lashed out like he ALWAYS lashes out. It's just that he had somewhat-calmer minds around who said, "let us handle this...you keep your hands clean."

Could Fitz be going after the guy who dreamed up the plot, not just the henchmen?

1. The fish rots from the head down
The buck stops -- like it or not -- on the desk of the erstwhile Commander in Chief*

* George W. Bush is the First and Only Commander In Chief to ever be marked with a disgraceful AWOL record.

2. My guess is that they were all in the same meeting
Bush's "smart" guys suggested outing plame and Bush replied, "Yea, lets get 'er.. meh heh heh heh heh heh". It's probably that simple.. Yet hard to prove.

5. That sounds too much like the old SNL sketch
where Reagan was actually a Machiavellian genius on the order of James Cagney in "1, 2, 3!" whenever no outsiders were in the room. I seriously doubt that Bush could connect enough dots to come up with this idea.

On the other hand, if you look at Rove's biography, this thing has his fingerprints all over it. It clearly has all the typical smells of a classic Rove dirty trick.

8. I agree
I don't think he could have come up with a complex plan about anything. Cheney probably came up with it and convinced Bush it was his own idea.

6. All right, then, take it a step further...
W is spitting nails because this guy Wilson is contradicting everything his administration is saying about the reasons to go to war with Iraq, so he gets on the phone...

W: "Poppy, that guy Wilson is about to blow the cover on my reasons to go to war with Iraq!"

HW: "Hmmm, his wife works for 'The Company...'"

W: "So?"

HW: "So out his wife, and teach him a lesson! Can't have these people going around exposing your scams, can we?"

W: "No, you're right, 'Mr. CIA Director!'"

HW: "And make it snappy; 'The Group' has some more WMDs deals going down with more 'countries not friendly to the United States'!"

W: "Consider it done, Poppy. I'll put Karl on it immediately!"

And the rest is history.
