He is the other aide.

Second Cheney aide cooperating in leak probe, those close to case say

Vice President Dick CheneyA second aide to Vice President Dick Cheney is cooperating with the special prosecutor's probe into the outing of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, those close to the investigation say.

Late Monday, several sources familiar with Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgeralds probe said John Hannah, a key aide to Vice President Dick Cheney and one of the architects of the Iraq war, was cooperating with Fitzgerald after being told that he was identified by witnesses as a co-conspirator in the leak. Sources said Hannah was not given immunity, but was likely offered a deal in exchange for information that could result in indictments of key White House officials.

Now, those close to the investigation say that a second Cheney aide, David Wurmser, has agreed to provide the prosecution with evidence that the leak was a coordinated effort by Cheneys office to discredit the agent's husband. Her husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, was one of the most vocal critics of the Iraq war.

Wurmser, Cheneys Middle East advisor and an assistant to then-Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs John Bolton, was in attendance at several meetings of the White House Iraq Group (WHIG), a little-known cabal of administration hawks that formed in August 2002 to publicize the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, the sources said. Those who say they have reviewed documents obtained in the probe assert that the Vice President was also present at some of the groups meetings.

not entirely surprising

Once two people inside a group flip and can corroborate a story line pretty well, you see a kind of collapse as the group realizes that the story line and material evidence (which they either know the two have or guess they have) are probably strong enough to prosecute everyone involved successfully. And it's not the prosecution- merely getting indicted and going into the process is by itself very painful stuff and career killing and life depriving in indirect ways. Not to mention expensive.

The small fish figure their higher ups will pin as much blame as possible on them. The only way they can head off really excessive punishment for themselves is to rat out their higher ups and hand over all the evidence they can for others' culpability- ASAP.

There's probably a race to Fitzgerald's door going on at this very moment. And a lot of phone calls between buddies and to lawyers.

19. Just a hunch here
Bolton strikes me as someone who who would flip in a country minute. I just have this feeling (nothing more, as nothing I have read so far points me to it) that he is very high up in the indictment chain, and that Fitzgerald has something big on him.

I don't know why, but I just feel it. He (Bolton) is as whacked-out as they come, and he's too good an ace not to play.

23. more on WormSir
Well before the Iraqi invasion, neo-cons Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and David Wurmser had authored the 1996 report, "A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm." It recommended that Israel "shape its strategic environmentby weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria." Demonstrating its commitment to this policy script, White House officials discussed the prospect of regime change in Syria with their Israeli counterparts, reported the October 4 Ha'aretz, and even asked who they thought could replace the secular Assad without provoking any regional instability.

I think that's what we're seeing here. Sure, there's loyalty amoung the very top guys, but all the workerbees are ruled by fear! If you talk to the press, you're fired! If you don't support everything we want, you're fired!

We folks, I've seen this is the business world a lot of times. When you get in a jam, and you really need these people to support you, it's THEIR TURN FOR POWER!

Believe me, none of the minions are going down for the dictators!!!

I thought I even read somewhere he was a co-founder of the OSP. Hannah was with WHIG. OSP took the raw intel and stovepiped it to WHIG for use in their "sell the war" campaign. This tells me Fitz is all over the neocon conspiracy to get us into an unlawful war.

They both have Likud connections, meaning Franklin. Chalabi connections, bolton connections, cheney connections.... If they are truly chirping this could split the serpent's gut from head to toe....

32. Here's some dirt on Wurmser, including ties to AIPAC
New Cheney Adviser Sets Syria In His Sights
by Jim Lobe
October 21, 2003

snip

David Wurmser, who had been working for Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton, joined Cheney's staff under its powerful national security director, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, in mid-September, according to Cheney's office.

snip

Wurmser's status as a favoured protege of arch-hawk and former Defence Policy Board chairman Richard Perle at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) also speaks loudly to Middle East specialists, who note Perle's long-time close association with Cheney, Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld and Rumsfeld's chief deputy Paul Wolfowitz.

snip

Wurmser, whose Israeli-born spouse Meyrav Wurmser heads Middle East studies at the neo-conservative Hudson Institute, was the main author of a 1996 report by a task force convened by the IASPS and headed by Perle, called the 'Study Group on a New Israeli Strategy Toward 2000'.

snip

In the book's acknowledgments, Wurmser praised those who most influenced his work, a veritable "who's who" of those neo-cons most closely tied to Israel's far right, including Perle himself, another AEI scholar, Michael Ledeen and Undersecretary of Defence for Policy and the man in charge of post-Iraq war planning, Douglas Feith.

Wurmser is, like Hannah, a link between Plamegate and AIPACgate:

Leak Inquiry Includes Iran Experts in Administration

By Robin Wright and Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, September 4, 2004; Page A04

snip

The investigators have asked questions about personnel in the office of Pentagon Undersecretary for Policy Douglas J. Feith as well as members of the influential Defense Policy Board, an advisory panel for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, according to former U.S. officials who have been questioned and others familiar with the case.

Investigators have specifically asked about a group of neoconservatives involved in defense issues, including Feith, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz, Iraq and Iran specialist Harold Rhode and others at the Pentagon. FBI agents also have asked current and former officials about Richard Perle of the defense board and David Wurmser, an Iran specialist and principal deputy assistant for national security affairs in Cheney's office, according to sources familiar with or involved in the case.

that Fitzgerald has really come down hard on their attorneys and made them convince their clients to talk or be indicted, or perhaps be charged with lesser crimes. This is a sign that Fitzgerald means business and is going after bigger game.
