Bill O'really = Art Bell
Remember Art Bell? He had a late, late night radio show that featured all kinds of lunatics and their ideas? I just read O'Really's interview where he claims he has to protect himself from his enemies. Well, Art Bell claimed that, for mysterious reasons, *they* were after him and that he had to hide, which he did and now someone else does his show. Maybe O'Really is Art Bell in disguise! :hide:

2. O'Reilly's not paranoid, he's just a pussy.
Typical blowhard coward like Limbaugh who is all tough talking until there is any possibility of physical danger. Then they pee their pants.

3. O'Really seems to be a third rate sweaty little mess that looks
an assistant manager at a Thrifty's. How the hell did he become famous? For what?

It's like looking at modern art and saying *I* could do that, all the pinheads look at O'Really and see themselves and think *I* could do that!

8. How he became famous
He was a talking head on Inside Edition, which was an infotainment jabber-fest. It's one of the shows that The Daily Show consciously mocks.

7. Don't be such a smart ass and talk about what you don't know..
Well, Art Bell claimed that, for mysterious reasons, *they* were after him and that he had to hide, which he did.

Art left the air in 2000 because of the family stress of dealing with the RAPE OF HIS SON BY A TEACHER IN HIS SON'S SCHOOL. He was off the air for almost a year. He came back when the situation was resolved (at least as much as possible).

He 'retired' in late 2002 after falling from his tower and seriously injuring his back. (You try sitting for 4-5 hours a night with your back in agony). He came back in late 2003 to host only the weekend shows.

9. Yeah, I have to agree.
While he would often have lunatic callers, Art Bell himself is quite sane, and nothing like O'Reilly. I don't understand the comparison.

11. No comparison whatsoever. I much prefer Bell's "lunatics" to Billdo's
demagoguery.

And Roscoe's post is what I recollect happened. Las Vegas Sun article:

Acclaimed radio talk show host Art Bell's mysterious disappearance from the airwaves last October may have been explained Friday with the revelation that Bell's son was sexually molested by a substitute teacher in Pahrump who has tested positive for HIV. http://www.lasvegassun.com/dossier/events/bell/

12. Don't insult Art Bell...
... the guy is a goof, but he's far from Bill O'Reilly.

And FTR, he left his show about 8+ years ago "mysteriously" (at the time). After about a year with a replacement host, he returned and explained that he left because he found out that his son has been sexually molested by one of his teachers.

He returned for 5 years or so, and in the last year or two has semi-retired. He continues to host the show one night a week (Sunday night's typically) and fills in for the new regular host (George Noorey) from time to time.

There's a lot of crap on the show, but about 1 out of 4 episodes has some fantastic stuff including some great science guests. Not all of it is ghosts and psychics.

14. Say you're sorry
Calling O'Reilly just like Art Bell is an insult to the seriously disturbed people who used to call Art Bell's show.

Well, they both hated facts and rationality, so maybe you do have a point after all. Sorry.

16. Oh, grow up
Art Bell is a nut who enables other nuts. That is harmful. It's called exploitation and lying.

His show is for UFO believers, for pity's sake.

People are close-minded if they don't believe in the endless rambling tales of little green men from Mars? Really?

How did you do in science class? No, did you even go?

I love how people believe something just because they want to and it sounds like a fun story. :eyes:

I will talk about whom I please. It's still a free country.

I love it when people who babble about crap they saw in the sky, are taken more seriously as the rational ones. Because there's just so much proof backing up their whoopty-doo visions.

No, the shadow of your clothes stand is not a monster coming to get you. The FBI probably doesn't have microphones taped under your coffee table. The people from planet Zuu do not have the ability to send radio stations into your dental fillings.

Are you going to cry if I take away your teddy bear?

Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 07:03 AM by Borgnine
Many of your fellow DUers have seen UFOs at least once in their lives, me included.

Just because there are several paranoids who take their obession with the topic a bit too far doesn't mean that anyone who has ever seen something unexplainable in the sky is crazy, and quite frankly, I find that broad brush stroke insulting.

18. "Watch it"?!? Excuse me?!?
You say that to me, and you say you find me insulting?

Is that a threat? Are you threatening me?

Why, what are you going to do?

Please. :eyes:

You've only shown me I was right in my opinion of the UFO crowd. You tell me to 'watch it,' after I poked fun at somebody. Very good! Very civilized! Way to take the moral high road and make yourself look like the better person. Way to not look insecure!

Saying something is a UFO literally means that you cannot yet identify it, you don't know what it is. It does not necessarily prove at all that this thing is from another world. A hat that I throw and you don't realize what it is before it gets stuck in a tree, is technically a UFO. Unidentified by the observer, that's all.

:puke:

I'm a DUer too. I myself have never seen UFOs. I'll bet a lot of other DUers don't believe in UFOs. Are you just going to get cranky and harangue them too? Didn't know there was room for only one kind of opinion, yours.

Funny thing, that!

I was merely saying you were running the risk of insulting a number of good people here. My phrasing wasn't meant to invoke a threat.

No matter, this argument is better suited for the Lounge.

21. Settle Down Beavis.
I second the moran sentiment.

Here's a real gem in your post:

"You tell me to 'watch it,' after I poked fun at somebody."

You get upset because someone called you on being uncivilized, baiting, and rude for absolutely no reason.

"I will talk about who I want, and when I want. It's still a free country."

While that is debatable considering who is running the country, technically that is the case.

So being a free country and all, you won't mind us telling you where to firmly place your misguided Internet Courage. You'll be able to find it easily because it's where your head seems to be located already.

Yahoo would probably be more suited for your kind of discussion.

22. Baiting? Me?
And not what he did to me, eh?

I can see the door opens one way here.

I make fun of a UFO show and I get reprimanded.

And then two more of you jump on my case.

This is ridiculous.

Nobody tried to see it my way, everyone wants to help out the people who believe in little space creatures, and to top it all off you called me a moron.

Did you read anything of what I said?

Don't you realize that by calling me a moron, it's the pot and the kettle?

I repeat: I made fun of Art Bell and his fans, and of UFO mania, and all I get for it is insults.

And you say you are the better part of the community.

To say I'm deeply disappointed is an understatement.

Personally, I think you've been hypocrites.

Ask any science professor if they think UFOs and Art Bell's show should be taken seriously. Go ahead. Write to MIT about it or something. Or ask James Randi. Somebody like that.

When they get done with you, are you going to belittle them as well?

I can't believe this. I stick up for rationality and make fun of a UFO show, and I get called a moron.

By people who then turn around and claim they feel insulted by what I wrote and they are supposed to be taking the stance of higher maturity. And tell me to "watch it." (Why isn't that reprehensible? Did you turn your moral selector off?) I still don't know what that means, but it can't be good.

Sure. Aliens are real and people who call in to talk shows and ramble on forever with unchecked stories about their personal claims, which are accepted blank-slate as real, are always to be trusted as having the highest scientific veracity.

I can't believe this. It is a day for pseudoscience and urban legend.

Do what you feel you need to do, but I stand behind everything I said.

25. See? That's the great thing about The Internets.
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 04:58 PM by TheWatcher
It allows closed-minded, rude, callous little people like yourself, who get so angry and fearful at the thought of anyone who dares think for themselves or have thoughts or ideas outside the accepted "mainstream", and who would otherwise have a fresh load in their pants and nursing a great deal of regret if they were stupid enough to do spew such bile to someone's face in public where consequences could very well abound, to do said spewing in a safe, if cowardly fashion.

In the end though, I can understand the callousness and rudeness somewhat. If I had to suffer from the back problems and nausea associated from smelling the inside of my backside all day, I might definitely have a strong conviction towards a nasty disposition.

Now, impress us all with your next brave salvo from behind the safety of your keyboard.

I'm sure we'll all be entertained.

:eyes:

Did I read everything you said?

Of course I did.

Here is is in case you missed it.

You responded to the poster in a completely childish way. You took the low road instead of choosing to have intelligent debate. You were a jerk, and several of us called you on it.

The point isn't that you disagreed with the posters here. It's that you are being an uncivilized child about it, and instead of offering to have intelligent debate, all you have are insults.

So what have we learned? It's a lot more fun and entertaining to talk to someone who has a strong conviction about the belief in the existence of UFO's than it is someone who has nothing to offer in the way of intelligent debate that disproves said existence, other than being a total, annoying DICK about it.
