Why is Rice teflon?
Is this reverse racism?

15. After 9/11, why didn't people demand her resignation?
Why did Bob Kerry send her flyswatters, by way of apology, after his rather mild "swatting flies" comment at the hearings?

Why does she have the public image of brilliance, even though Seymour Hirsch describes her as a dimwit?

Why isn't she held accountable for ignoring 9/11 warnings and arrogantly cutting Richard Clarke out of the loop?

Teflon as in, her grade-F performance does not mar her grade-A reputation.

How many Americans know that she was buying Ferragamos while New Orleans drowned?

How many MSM reporters have covered the Spamalot story?

2. No, but perhaps it helps to insulate her a bit from criticism.
After all, the first thing someone will say to counter a Rice critic is racism, and the second is sexism.

11. She's Hard To Beat Down...
It's all substance...besides being black and a woman...there's her physical appearance that belies the person inside.

I know of people who felt that despite her bombshell about what the PDB said during her 9/11 Commission testimony...she was portrayed as being bullied by Ben Veniste. Or when she was questioned hard during her confirmation hearings, how that was portrayed as how she stood up valiantly to some bullies. A carefully crafted image...a true wolf in sheep's clothing. (and expensive shoes).

13. Rice and Miers
and their worship of Bush...their open adoration...seem very adolescent. They act girlish. Not like mature, intelligent, accomplished women. Which they are, whether you agree with their politics or not. These are adult women who have worked hard to get where they are -- professionally. That is why their coquettish behavior when shown male attention seems so bizarre. Most women get past this during their teen years. We know when we're being flattered and manipulated by some guy's casual charm. Not these two. Miers switched from being a Roman Catholic to being an evangelical Christian after falling under the spell of a former boss.
They're tofu. They're like the women we all know who take on the attitudes and hobbies of their latest man.
Talk about your arrested adolescence.

14. Her only plus is her loyalty to the GOP
She's a Cold War scholar. She's way out of her element and knows nothing but nothing about State.

However, nobody will call her on it without running the risk of being called a racist sexist.

Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 03:27 PM by SoCalDem
The republicans spent decades perfecting their scheme.. There are always people who "look" a certain way, and yet are NOT..Wolf in sheep's clothing is the republican ideal..

They are very good at it too.. their spokespeople (usually a pretty blonde woman wearing red) are so genteel-looking, and yet get away with saying the most outrageous things.. they get away with it, because anyone who criticized them is immediately attacked for being "hateful, mean, misogynistic, etc"..

This is not accidental.. They have worked very hard to perfect the ploy.. I suspect that many copies of "V" are circulating amongst the faithful

26. Which is why Black politicians need to speak up......
Rice is not liked in the Black Community. Farrakhan has a more direct ear to the Black community than Condi does. (And please, I don't want to turn this is a Farrakhan flamesfest as this is about Condi)

One of the real problems I have with the current Black leadership is that,in my opinion, they were and sometimes still are too deferential to Condi and Powell because they were supposed firsts in their field. Firsts who did absolutely nothing to help Black folk when they had the chance.

I just hope that our leadership doesn't muzzle themselves out of some unspoken respect for a so-called honor. If Blacks leaders from all across the spectrum really hammer Condi on how she has performed as a so-called Black leader then the Repubs can scream anti-black all they want. If 90% of Black people don't care for Condi, how can they use the anti-Black strategy. But if we open our churches and let Condi walk in with either the aggrieved victim or the I'm a Black history moment Bullshit, then quite frankly we'll deserve the very back of her ass which she'll gladly show us if she's made VP or a presidential candidate.

We need to be just a hard on Condi as we are on Bush or we are just whistling past the graveyard. This is something I'll be watching

17. Republicans actually pull the "race card" out more often...
..than they claim the usual suspects do(Jesse, Al, etc.).

Remember Ann Coulter two fisting Racism and Sexism when the possibility of Janice Rogers Brown came up for SCOTUS? Same thing when Condi was gifted with State Dept.

27. Maybe it's some Liberal guilt thing....
which is why I think the key here will be for Black leaders to speak up. Condi is not well liked in the Black community. I can undertand how it may be difficult for a White person to slam Condi's ass. Don't agree with it but I understand it. Having our representatives speak up is quite another thing. And we might have to air our dirty laundry to do it but so what.

Sorry, I don't want to hear from progressive Black leadership that they can't slam Condi because she has been given some high honor and "occupies a position of power that no Black woman has". Who cares?

Acknowledging her appointment is one thing. Feeling good about her appointment is another thing. Feeling actual pride in what she has accomplished; Feeling that she will represent our race wel. These are also important things to consider and on these fronst Condi has failed miserably.
