GOP learns nothing from security failures of 9/11

Mon Oct 17, 6:16 AM ET

Air travelers may soon see a change in security procedures - one that takes them back toward the bad old days when passenger screening was a sieve.

An obscure provision in a bill President Bush is scheduled to sign Tuesday will make it easier for airports to dump federal screeners in favor of private companies - exposed as utterly inept after 9/11. It exempts airports from being sued for failings of private screeners in the event of a terrorist attack.

This is a triumph of ideological rigidity and political scheming over common sense.

1. Privatizing: lower pay and benefits for workers, a killing for the
the favored contractor, and immunity from liability for private contractors' monumental screw-ups: Repukes doing what's best for 'Merika.

2. Homeland security is a myth...
but at least the administration will have someone to blame if the system fails...someone other than the administration.

See, cronyism and privatization allows you to pass the buck when something goes bad and then get a large contrabution to give out the new no-bid contract to a new "best friend".
