3. Well, I have a bit of confidence in what comes from Al jezerra. (sp)
Read a post about an hour ago from them that said it seemed there were 10 million+ people voted. Although it's pretty said to think I have more confidence in Al jezerrathan in NBC, CBS, NBC, and CNN!

5. If it comes from British newspapers or the BBC, perhaps
At least in those cases there is a chance that the stories are true.

9. No, I stopped
believing the reports about Iraq a long time ago. I've become so cynical, I never believe anything I hear from the government anymore. I'm even skeptical about the reports on the Avian flu. Wonder if it's just another way to keep people scared.

11. No, reporters can't even ventured out on their own.......
everything is done with the military and that is biased news. You don't get reports from the other side, the insurgents, the people in general.

22. Who Is He With?
Division? Company? Army? Marines? What are the troops saying? Your post is a bit cryptic. Mine just got the shit blown out of him over there.

He's on his back at Bethesda just out of surgery now.

What does your son have to say?

30. First of all
I'm very sorry to hear about your son. I'll pray for his recovery.

My son is in the Marines. I didn't mean to be cryptic-I just despair at the news coverage-of Iraq and most other things.

I just got off the phone with him and it seems that everyone was pleased with how the voting went today-no violence in his sector (wherever that is)-very heavy turnout, very enthusiastic voters.

He really doesn't give a lot of particulars, but he does say that the vast majority of the Iraqis really seem glad that we are there and that the 'bad guys' that are identified, by his unit at least, are almost always NOT Iraqi. I'm not sure how he knows.

I'd say that, in general, he feels that things are tough, but better than the media makes out. He was really frustated once, during his first tour, when one of the TV networks interviewed one of our soldiers who said something to the effect that 'we shouldn't be here, no one wants us.' My sons comment was 'They probably asked 100 guys before they got that answer. Nobody in my outfit would say that.'

Passionate comments on both sides notwithstanding, I think it will be a while before the jury is back on this.

Again, my prayers for your son.

Her work at sifting thru the neocon filtering to post link after link showing us what's really happening with Iraq is invaluable to ending this occupation and actually supporting all of the troops!

I didn't understand why the reporters were in the green zone though? I thought they would want to go out and join in the celebration?

20. Why WOULD you believe any of it, when there's been so many lies,
especially to get us to invade there in the first place, and they have every reason to lie now, the means to do it, and we have little or no way of verifying anything.

Whether it's body counts, the wonderful "intercepted letters", the deaths of the various #2's, and the identity or existence of "Zarqawi" himself.

How is one to know which, if any, of it is true?

Everybody's political views colors their perception of Iraq. I don't even think people living in Iraq have a full grasp of what the hell is happening there. Their own views are colored by whether they're Sunni, Shiite or Kurd, and where they live, what they do, etc. It's a friggin' mess and Bush hasn't got a clue what to do to fix it, that's the only thing I know for sure.

It isn't safe for journalists to get out of the green zone, and the drive between the green zone and the airport is still unsafe.
